I honestly thought this was a scam because the seller had only 1 review and this K1 Max was $100 cheaper than the next best black Friday deal. I was amazed when the printer came super fast and new in-box. This was even the newest V2 version that solved a couple of Creality’s issue with the first edition. The K1 Max is incredible! Prints so fast and with such detail. Big thank you to Creality and the seller.

I got this set up and followed the instructions. To keep the initialization going smoothly, consider setting up a Creality Cloud account first before you start.
A note on that site, the mobile app and the web site both have ads. As I write this, most of the ads are malware or scam software links made to look like legitimate software download links. If you go too fast, you may download something you didn’t want.
Back to the review: I downloaded the cloud app, registered a creality cloud account and logged in.
First, I printed a hyper PLA benchy in about 16m. It came out extremely nice, a little better than some youtubers’ first benchies I’ve seen. I printed the calibration cube it came with and it came out flawless!
I started printing a gnome model I like that takes about 3 or so hours on my CR-10 or my SV-04, and it was finished before I got done writing this, and looked even better.
The limitations: First it’s loud. Surprisingly loud in this era of quiet fans and motors. I’m thinking of building an enclosure around the enclosure for sound and vibration damping.
Second, the filament holder is in the back, and you need extra clearance to get the spool on and off. Before too long, you’ll probably be printing a mod because where it is is intolerable, at least for me.
Third, the software is kind of a black box as it relates to settings. If I have a print that’s failing, I know what to do on my other printers (the two I mentioned above plus an ender 3) but there are many settings in Cura and Prusa slicers that aren’t available in the Creality slicer, even though it’s based on Cura. This is why I think it might not be for beginners. Automation is great, till it’s not, and then it’s really hard to troubleshoot. It would be heartbreaking for this to turn into a $1000 paperweight if you’re new to FDM and something goes wrong.
Overall, a great printer if speed has been really holding you back. Prints surprisingly well at high speeds and with many different materials supported, I think there’s a lot more fun to come…
UPDATE: I found some of the settings in Creality slicer that I couldn’t find before. For easy dispatch of print jobs, I’m growing to love it. I printed a long articulated snake with no support, no brims and it printed perfectly the first time. NONE of my other printers have done so on the first try. I love this thing, raising to 5 stars and I’m not a paid actor…

I have deducted 1 star because Creality has limited access to the core configuration of the printer, to be able to easily dial in the dimensional accuracy. That said, this printer is great. Especially for a sub $1K 300mm volume core X/Y machine. You have to remove 3 shipping screws on the Z axis, peel some tape and attache the front door handle and it is assembled. Load filament in and follow the step by step instructions on the screen and in about 20-30 minutes you are ready to print. I connected to our office wifi and opened the Creality Cloud print software. I sliced a Benchy (did not use their file) and sent it to the printer in “normal” mode. 20-25 minutes later I had an excellent benchy, with only 1 very light string in the cabin, otherwise a great print. For someone who knows very little about 3D printing and the “dialing” in usually required, you could not ask for an easier solution. I do have experience in 3D printing and I need dimensional accuracy in the prints we do for our business, so I need access to the configuration files. It can be done, several videos on youtube on how to accomplish this access. Creality should have provided this access from the factory so I have deducted 1 star. I have literally only had this printer for a few hours but have already ran 4 differnt prints, all in PLA. Also FWIW, it is a good looking printer, with the tinted glass on the front, sides and top. Top is easily removable for maintenance or temperature management and door opens/closes smoothly. I will obviously continue working with the machine and will update my review if anything major develops. IMHO it is worth the money, especially compared with others out there with similiar capabilites. Also there is a HUGE base of Creality users to lean on for assistance. The K1 Max is still fairly new so not the same amount of information available yet as compared to say an Ender, but it will get there soon enough. One last comment, I think this printer is very quiet, some YouTube reviews stated it was loud, compared to other printers I have been around and worked with this thing is silent.

    Hope this helps 🙂

Edit Review: I changed from 4 to 5 stars. We have been running the machine for several weeks now. Once I figured out how to adjust the print parameters so that it was printing dimensionally accurate by adjusting the “Horizontal Scaling factor for both X & Y [Z was good] (as good as can be expected from extruded plastic) this machine is awesome. Very fast, great finishes, the stock software is more than adequate. I did not want to root the machine since multiple people in the office use it for various projects. So far we have printed PLA, PETG, TPE and TPU. All filaments worked with the default settings in the software. Yes we did tweak a few settings to improve the overall quality, but none of the prints were failures. I do not understand the negative reviews on YouTube, this is an excellent machine for it’s capabilities versus it’s price point. I wish this machine existed several years ago when I got into 3D printing, it is as close to a professional printer as one can get in this price range.

Bottom line: not recommended. Save up for a more reliable machine if downtime is a deal breaker for you or if you simply want a hassle free machine. This is very close to the Ender 3 experience: you’ll have to learn too much about your machine and how to keep it running instead of using that time developing products or printing them.

I have run just over 50 prints with this printer in an 8 month period. Very light use by any standards. I occasionally print trinkets, but I mainly use it for custom designs for functional products. I chose it for it’s core XY, large volume format. This is my 2nd printer so i was looking for something more “hands off” as in auto leveling, minimal maintenance, etc.

At just under $1000, this was supposed to be that solution. However, my first unit was defective and i had to return it. I gave it a second chance but I regret it. The first prints ran fine but it is unreliable. On the 2nd unit, I’ve had at least 6 jams with Creality brand filament that force me to take apart the entire hotend for clearing. The AI camera is also unreliable sending constant false alarms. The bed was uneven, and the Creality YouTube video solution did not correct it. i had to go another route.

The concept is great and the price is on point… if it worked as advertised. Unfortunately it feels more like a Ender 3 which was “upgraded” to a CoreXY and larger volume because all other features are utterly useless. The amount of downtime and repair I have had with this machine does not justify the price tag. For $600? Sure, let’s get our hands dirty. At the almost $1000 price? I expect to be doing much less to keep it running.

When it does run reliably, the prints are of good quality and the volume is perfect for most applications.

The media could not be loaded.

     I can’t believe I didn’t do this earlier.
I’ve had my Ender 3 for a few years now and the difference in noise level is fantastic “ so quiet now”
