I own this product and am happy with my purchase. The instrument has a great sound, once you change the strings. That is a must I would say, but that is true of most orchestral string instruments purchased in these types of outfits. The case it comes with is a much higher quality than you would expect for an instrument this price, I am very happy with it.
The one issue I had was with the bow – I only recently started to play the cello but have been playing viola for more than 25 years so am experienced with different types of bows. I can honestly say that the bow that came with this instrument was one of the worst I have ever used. I had a much less expensive cello outfit that came with a better bow than this. So, while I would certainly recommend this product to others because of the quality of instrument and case for the price, I would add the disclaimer that you should definitely be prepared to buy a better bow. I upgraded and it made a huge difference.

I bought this for my daughter. It has been an excellent beginner cello. You may want to purchase more expensive strings but otherwise it has a good sound. If you look this model to other websites it is much more expensive.

The first SC-175 cello I recieved had a terrible setup. The “A” string buzzed as it almost touched the fingerboard. Since the cost of a new properly fitted bridge is costly, I decided to return it. The other thing that was disturbing is the label inside the instrument said “Veritas” instead of Cremona. I found out from the distributor (sagamusic.com) they sell SC-175 cellos to a company that requires them to change the label to “Veritas”. Although why would they send these relabeled instruments to Amazon? Anyway, I returned the first SC-175 and recieved a replacement. The replacement cello setup is somewhat better in that strings all have clearance. However the sound post is too long as I can feel a significant bump on the soundboard. Also the replacement is also labeled “Veritas” instead of Cremona inside. Dissappointing!! Sagamusic’s quality control could be much better. They claim these are setup to the MENC standards in there California shop. I beg to differ as even the replacement unit does not match MENC standards for string clearances which should be1st = 4mm, 4th = 6.5mm. I do believe the quality of construction of the SC-175 is good. Just expect to spend time and money having it setup better. Also don’t be dissapointed if it says “Veritas” on the label inside the cello.

Poor quality, A, D string can’t tune right, and can’t stand for the stress, the teacher was very disappointed, and my daughter was very upset. Overall, vey poor quality, not even qualified for beginner cello.

The media could not be loaded.
In this clip I talk about the cello and play a clip of a song on it; a bit of the first minuet in Suite for Solo Cello No. 1 in G Major. This cello also comes with a sturdy and well-built hard case that could work for more high-end cellos as well. The bow is ok for beginners, but as you advance in skill, a higher-quality bow will greatly enrich the sound of any cello.

I first rented a Knilling Segundo cello. That was cool, but would have taken years to pay off, and only had a Kaces III bag with the end pin protruding out the bottom. I returned this realizing how ridiculous this was.
After that, I bought a used Engelhardt 3/4 size cello and a full size case off craigslist.com. The case was nice, but the cello was a pure lemon. It sounded good, but kept sliding down the end pin.
I took the Engelhardt outfit to Sam Ash today, and put a down payment on one of these Cremona full-size beauties. The other two cellos were used instruments. When I first saw and played this instrument, it just blew me away. Another shock to me was seeing the case that this instrument comes with. It’s a Travelite TL-20 that sells for $199 alone.
If you want the best cello that money can buy with the brand name which shares its name with the string capital of the world, this is the instrument for you.

I bought this cello, which was used and refurbished, 2 years ago on ebay. I knew it did not have a very good review on Amazon. After I received it, I was surprised how good it sounded, and was very easy to play. That time I was a super novice player and could not tell if the cello was good or not. Now after playing cello for 2 years and learning more, and trying out different cellos, I realized that this cello is an excellent cello. I have never played expensive cellos that advanced and professional players would use, but for under 1,000 dollar student cellos, this is an excellent choice. I wanted to buy 3/4 size of this same cello for my 11 year old daughter, who has been taking a private lesson for a year, but I could not find an used cello. Since I did not want to buy a brand new cello, I went for different brands; one made in China and one old German made. The German cello sounded so good, and the teacher loved that cello. After my daughter played it solo in one recital and in one church music program, I decided that it lacked projection (not loud enough). Then I finally found an Used 3/4 size Cremona SC175. I quickly bought it. The teacher loves this as much as that vintage German cello. The other day, my daughter played this cello for an audition to get in honors orchestra for the entire school district. She made it! I had to write this review so people like me searching for a good cello for your child would know how good this cello is.
