I replaced the strings that came with the student cello I just ordered from Amazon. WOW!!! I can’t believe the difference in the sound and for about 1/3 the price I would have paid for them in my local music store. Before ordering I asked a professional cellist if they were good and worth the price. He said “yes” on both counts, but I didn’t expect them to make such a difference in the sound. I haven’t even gotten the bridge and sound post prefessionally set yet and I haven’t played a cello for 9 years and I sound good! Can I recommend these…YES, YES, YES!!

I have a set of these for my cello and find them to be very nice. They are a big step up from the lower grade steel strings as they have a warmer and softer sound. They do take some break-in for the initial stretch and some getting used to. The diameter is a bit larger, so they are easier on your fingers. The A string tends to break easier, but you should keep a spare.

So, I am still just a student celloist so I have little to compare these strings to. My instructor says they are good strings and reasonably priced for the quality. I like warm, natural sound rather than something that sounds like metal. So far, I am pleased with these strings and will likely purchase them again in the future.
Brian A Broyles –
These strings are much more responsive than my Larson strings. They seem to be about 25% louder and I can hear better the overtones in my cello. I have a very nice quality Cello, and it has been a little dull as far as sound color. These strings seem to have less mass so they vibrate more and continue to vibrate some after the bow has stopped. They do make my cello sound warmer than before and overall I like the strings. The strings stretch allot more than steel strings, so the fine tuners need about 2 to 3 times the amount of adjustment as compared to steel strings. I also notices a tinny guitar type of tone when playing.
Next time I might try Dominates, to see how they fare. The price for these strings was very reasonable. I think if you have a very dull instrument, or a practice instrument, these strings should bring it back to life. If your instrument is already bright, then these strings may be overkill.
The biggest drawback is that the C string is useless, it has such low tension that the string prefers to roll over instead of catching the bow. I might experiment and over tighten it, so it will stretch back to a C and possibly be useful. For now since I need to practice, I am putting back on my old C string.

I usually like to play on Dominants, but I put a set of these on a student cello and they really made it sing compared to the steel strings that shipped with it. They warm up faster than other synthetic core strings, but you still need take your time breaking them in, and they should provide good sustain and rich overtones, especially for arco. They are not gut strings, but they are very flexible and they stay in tune really well, which makes them good for beginners and intermediate players who have to change venues frequently.

Unfortunately, the A string broke while the cello had been in its stand overnight (I.e. not while being played). Don’t think I can order another set based on this.

There’s a story here.-
When my package arrived [ as promised, on time, using Canada Post’s “Priority Mail”] the Canada Post mailing envelope – beige, bubble wrap inside was intact, unopened just as one would expect it to be.
The little cardboard box withe the set of 4 strings — had been opened, and the A string removed. At $150 / set of 4, you can imagine that I was somewhat annoyed!
I contacted Amazon.ca’s customer service dept. by ‘phone and the problem was resolved right away – well, “within two business days.”
I’m very impressed.
Now, the strings: I bought as a compromise between gut and metal – and they sound WONDERFUL !
A little slower response – not much, a little less ‘voice/projection’–which is just what I wanted, I’m not a ‘ concert cellist’ – I play for my own pleasure, by myself at home, or with a few friends as a trio or quartet in one of their homes. We all use synthetic strings now and we are all pleased with the results.

Perfectly as advertised

Ordered as replacement for broken string in an original set. Took a week or so to settle in and now produces a better sound than the original. I have always sort of cringed at my playing the A string but now feel pretty good about the sound I’m hearing.

I tried this sets on and love the sound. These strings are synthetic core, so they have more mellow sound compared to metal core strings. It totally depends on your taste if you want bright, or warm tone. They have good response too.
The reason for 4 stars because when I put them on my cello, the steel on the cable unwound a bit. This does not happen with other set of strings. But the sound is still ok.
Michael F. –
So I’ve been playing the cello for a long time now I’m guessing for three years, and I have got to say that these are so beautiful in such a way that’s it’s amazing that it is this cheap. The strings have the warmth and resonance of gut, but have the tuning stability of steel and synthetic strings. The bow response is absolutely beautiful, and the silk color code is unique. If you are looking for a professional grade string you have definitely got one. A great buy!
UPDATE: After a month they go a bit false and lose their clearness and warmth.
