It’s a fine printer/scanner so far, as long as I have it cabled to the desktop. (I’ve no use for the fax capabilities.) While I consider myself to be reasonably tech savvy, I have a low tolerance for frustration. Despite five hours of effort on two different days, I was not able to get my desktop (an HP – running Windows 8, unfortunately) or my ipad to connect wirelessly with the printer.

This machine replaces an HP all in one – I bought it because I have had other dell printers that are still in use by other family members and they work wonderful. This is being used for it’s multifunction ability (fax and scan are very important) The PC fax functions are severely lacking. It has very poor fax to computer communication.
#1 When set up to send faxes from the computer, the receiving notification is terrible (a small bubble icon that stays up for a maximum of 5 minutes) – you need to keep checking the incoming faxes folders to see if anything was received (the HP had a nice dialog box that stayed on your desktop till you opened the fax or closed the box ).
#2 When you set up the address book in the computer, it does not store it in the printer – therefore, you have to set up the printer address book separately (the HP did this automatically, once entered in the computer, it was automatically in the printer if you wanted to send a fax directly from the printer).
#3 The scan program for the computer is not as detailed as the HP – it is hard to fix the quality of the scanned document.
The copy functions are nice, but overall I am very disappointed in this dell product. I never thought HP would have been so superior – I am sorry I changed machines.

I bought this printer because I already had a Dell Laptop and for some strange reason. I thought if I bought a Dell Printer the two would mesh perfectly together with any problems, “OH HOW WRONG WAS I!” I stuck with this printer for over one year and I can honestly say without any prejudice in any way. Overall, this printer isn’t worth the money you may spend on it. One of the constant problems I keep experiencing with this printer is that it keeps loosing its WIFI wireless connection. I bought this printer for one of it supposingly main features and that was the wireless connection. I thank the Lord for my life time subscription to my Dell Computer Tech Support they had to reconnect my printer to my Lap Top on countless occasions. Now a new problem have started. The printer almost jams every time it tries to print something. I can not began to tell you how frustrating these problems are becoming. I wish there was someway I can get my money back for this sad excuse of a printer ๐

The printer performs well after initial difficulties setting it up. Tech assistance has to come from dell rather than seller and dell is not too eager to provide quality assistance when purchased elsewhere cheaper than dell is willing to sell it for. In the past I have received adequate tech assistance from dell but not this time. finally gave up and solved the issue myself after 2 days.

Great value– works well and fast. Toner cartridges are reasonable priced. Highly recommend!

I bought this Dell printer 2 months ago to go with my new Dell computer since HP wouldn’t support the perfectly good multifunction I already had. I really tried to like this printer, but, alas after 2 months that is just impossible. While this printer is easy to hook up to your computer, I find it loses the connection fairly often and requires you to connect with a cable to reestablish the connection. If you print any number of envelopes I would strongly discourage you from purchasing this printer. It routinely has “paper jams” when you manually feed the envelopes into it and then you pretty much have to shut it off to get it to reset. I don’t think I have ever been so frustrated with a piece of office equipment. Navigating through the menus is no picnic either. I guess ifyou just want a copier it might be okay but trying to use the other functions is a hassle. I passed over the HP Laser Jet Pro M1217 we have at work because it seemed flimsy to me but at least it is a user friendly unit. I will never buy another Dell printer. I’d say stick with HP.
