I bought this turntable fifteen years ago through Amazon (it was $100 less then). It connects to your sound system through RCA cables (two plugs, one red, one white, for left and right channels). If you plug it into a receiver with a “phono” input, you don’t need a pre-amp (it’s built into the receiver/amplifier). If there’s no phono input, then there’s probably an Aux(iliary) input. With turntables that have no pre-amp, you’d need to add one, which is just one more thing on the table. This Denon turntable has a built in pre-amp (they call it an “equalizer”) which can be switched on or off depending on whether you’re connecting it to a “phono” or “Aux” input. In my case, I turned the turntable equalizer to “on” and simply plugged it into my tv soundbar system’s Aux input using an RCA/Aux adapter.* Easy peasy. Glorious vinyl sound using my tv’s surround sound system. This might not be the set-up that a true audiophile would appreciate, but it works great for me.
*A word about this adapter. I ordered it from Amazon 15 years ago when I got the turntable. It cost about $1.29. Free shipping all the way from China! Took about three weeks, but it got here and it works just fine. Checked recently on Amazon. The adapter’s now about five bucks, but you get it in a couple days.

The DP-3000NE is a wonderful turntable, but it’s not as convenient as a fully automatic turntable. If you like not having to worry about being out of the room or falling asleep when a record reaches the end, then a turntable with automatic return is a better match for you. Honestly, I miss it.
That said, the DP-3000NE is incredibly impressive. After I bought it and before I got it, I was starting to regret spending the money. Then…it showed up, and all of that went away. This thing is shockingly robust. It’s HEAVY. At about 40 pounds, it’s not something that most people will move around with ease. Given that weight, it’s no surprise that the isolating feet are pretty amazing. The dust cover is incredibly nice. Actually, everything is. There’s nothing about this that doesn’t impress me. There are remarks on the internet about it being made in China implying that it isn’t as nice as it would have been if it were made in Japan, and maybe that’s true, but I can’t see or feel anything about it that isn’t top notch.
A couple of things to note, perhaps especially for those of you like me that either haven’t used a turntable in years or perhaps are just starting:
(*) The DP-3000NE does not come with a cartridge, so you’ll need to account for the extra expense if you don’t have one
(*) I didn’t do enough research and bought a Denon cartridge, and those happen to all be (as far as I can tell) moving coil (MC) cartridges. Most electronics with built-in phono stages, including my Denon receiver, are made for higher-output moving magnet (MM) cartridges. So, make sure that you’re electronics are compatible with the cartridge that you buy, or plan on another additional expense of a phono preamp (or, if you prefer, a step up transformer). The skies the limit on the cost of those things, but if you’re buying this turntable, you’re probably going to be in the ~$500 range if you want to use a MC cartridge
Although it does not come with a cartridge, it does come with the headshell and different sized screws to mount different cartridges.
The adjustments are pretty impressive. You have your typical counterweight and anti-skate adjustments, as well as a less typical tonearm height adjustment. They are all smooth and easy to adjust. It’s honestly a pleasure to move the pieces around because of how smooth everything is.
So, yeah, for around $2500 (depending on sales) you’d expect a quality product – and you get it with the DP-3000NE. Although I miss the automatic functions, I knew going in that this didn’t have those, so I won’t knock it for not having those. For a manual turntable, I’m very happy with this!

I purchased my first ever Denon product, the DP-300F automatic turntable to replace my ancient Technics SL-1600 direct drive. As much as I tried to keep the old boy alive, it was time to dump it.
I am extremely happy with the Denon DP-300F. It functions exactly as promised and I can again enjoy the pure delight of vinyl ( scratches and all ! ) that MP3’s can’t possible offer. Crisp highs, thunderous rumbling lows and a warm mid range that I’ve missed listening to IPOD’s. I’m SOO glad I kept all my vinyl. This requires minor assembly but the instructions are clear and so easy, a chimp can do it. You will find it comes with everything needed to start listening as soon as you hook up to your receiver. The included cartridge is as good or better than the Ortofon cartridges I’ve used in the past. Although this is a belt drive, I can’t tell the difference. WOW and Flutter is non existent but don’t place the turntable too close to your speakers if you intend to crank them up.
The look of this turntable is sleek and it’s very easy to operate. It won’t accommodate 78’s, but my 45’s and the 33 LP’s sound great.
I’m so happy to get great sound without having to spend hundreds more. This is a great value for entry level vinyl lovers as well as more critical ears. Keep in mind that your home system is only as strong as your weakest component. I use Klipsch towers and a powerful Onkyo Receiver to drive my sound.
