Dracula was a show that aired on NBC (which ultimately led to its downfall) in 2013 and starred Johnathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula. The premise is that Dracula comes to London posing as an American Industrialist named Alexander Grayson to bring wireless electricity to the world. In reality, he is trying to bring down a group called The Order of the Dragon that cursed him with immortality and killed his wife. He is aided by Abraham Van Helsing whose family was also killed by the Order. While in London, Grayson falls in love with a woman named Mina Murry (played by Jessica De. Gouw whom most people will probably recognize from her appearances on the series Arrow), who also looks like his late wife. She is betrothed to Jonathan Harker, who is a journalist that Dracula employs to aid in his scheme to bring down the Order.
The show only got a limited run of 13 episodes. It was hardly enough time to set everything up and really get people invested in the show. It is one of those shows that would have been a lot better off on the CW network and could have easily had a 5+ season run had it not had to pull major network level ratings. Much like the show Constantine, which was on NBC right around the same time, the dark nature of the show (as well as the sex) probably turned a lot of people off, and hence, the show did not get great ratings and was canceled midway through the first season.
For those who get the DVD set, there are some extras, including deleted scenes, a couple of making-of and behind-the-scenes features, an animated series that shows some of what led up to what airs in the series, and Van Helsing’s lost tapes which shows him conducting experiments on vampires.
Overall, the show is very good, and most definitely deserved a longer run. The end of the season left a lot on the table (it does seem like the final episode was reworked a bit so the showrunners may have known ahead of time that the show was canceled) and had set the show to go in a potentially different direction. And, for fans of hers, it seems that Katie McGrath’s character would have been expanded had the show continued. So, even if you like the show, it will leave you feeling incomplete because not everything is resolved by the end of the season. I do, however, think it is worth watching even if you will feel a bit cheated by not seeing a clear end to the storylines.

Why did the NBC not renew this for a second season? Why did Netflix not pick it up for streaming or for a season two? The series had so much potential. The moment you realize that (spoiler alert!) Van Helsing of all people brought Dracula back to life and they work together just blew my mind! You just had to keep watching the series to see where it will take you.
I am in love with the novel. I know the material well. This series was a brilliant twist on the novel. My wife and I were glued to the tv once a week to watch an episode. I was sad to find out a season two was not going to happen. It was salt in the wound when Netflix was going to pick it up and then abandoned it. Oh well. I have it on Blu Ray, so I can relive the series whenever I want and hopefully get some friends interested in the show too.

Un Dracula différent de l’original mais une belle atmosphère victorienne et l’histoire tient bien la route. Une très belle surprise.

When is this DVD set coming out??? Pre-ordered in February, the anticipation is getting painful. I shouldn’t think it would be a great production to slap a boxed set together of 10 episodes with some of the same ‘behind the scenes’ extras as shown on NBC. Come out with it please! Thank you!
This series rose above anything Prime Time Network television has offered in the past. Unfortunately, with a 9:00 p.m. Friday evening time slot, who’s home watching television? Well… that would be me. EVERY Friday, Nine PM sharp! And then again the next day On Demand. The episodes are so intricate, so lavish, so stunningly portrayed, the characters deep and charismatic. As is everything Jonathan Rhys-Myers puts his hand to, his performance re-invents an overdone character. The lollipop sucking millennial vampires are so weak and cliché! The black and white’s generate spook and suspense. Dracula, the NBC series is lush, lavish, lusty, savage, ruthless, cunning, intelligent, unpredictable, and taunting beyond expectations. Very silly of NBC to plan one season only, and as someone said, this series definitely fits more comfortably on Pay television. There are no boundaries on subject matter and sex is a highly pervasive topic. The women are beautiful, the characters believable, and our beloved Dracula… we feel his pain, his terrible loneliness. Feeling sorry for a blood-thirsty vampire? Don’t get me started…
If television isn’t wise enough to produce another season, at least give us re-runs of the first. It’s been months since the episodes aired and I can’t wait much longer to kill the lights, and binge on episode after episode, over and over again! Absolutely brilliant!
Better drama than Game of Thrones, better suspense too. Deeper characters, more compelling plot, more satisfying pace… everything about it is better than the current Number One Television Show…. so where is it now?? Seriously!!!

This series could have gone one for at least 2 more seasons. I loved the story, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers made me feel the loneliness, the anger, the passion through his performance. Kudos to the actors who were part of this piece. I’m so glad I ordered this series. I’m also glad that this story varied from Bram Stoker’s version.

Una serie muy bien ambientada e interesante que por desgracia fue cancelada. El envÃo ha sido rápido y esta en muy buen estado, no tiene subtitos en español pero no pasa nada.

The DVDs worked fine and there were no issues. I read reviews before buying to make sure it was region 1 (it is), and it was funny to see how many of the negative reviews were due to people not liking the show, rather than issues with the actual product. I for one enjoyed the show. Is that because I’ll watch Katie McGrath in just about anything? Perhaps. I’ve also seen close every Dracula film/tv adaptation there is and this one may have its flaws, but in my opinion overall it’s entertaining.

So, to say I like vampires would be a little bit of an understatement. I really, really love vampires. I’ve been into vampires for about 16 years. In that time, I’ve watched my fair share of Dracula adaptations- from Bela to Oldman. I’ve been around the block. I’ve also in more recent years, been pretty disappointed with vampire related content. I never jumped on the Twilight train. (no hate, just not my thing.) And this is why potentially this version of Dracula passed under my radar.
So here we are, 2017, I SOMEHOW stumble upon this show. And I am pretty blown away by it, from maybe – 3 episodes in. This is such a lovingly made adaption of a very, very overdone classic. For one, it looks gloriously beautiful. The costumes, the smoky, ethereal quality of it. For two, the use of vampire lore and science just slays me.(ahem) Rhys-Meyers presents just the right amount of mystique, of gentlemanly charm – with the ferocious monster lurking beneath. SO GOOD.
What else did I love? The musical score is stunning, truly stunning. The characterisation is just fantastic. Dracula, the novel, is a pretty dry read, but it has a lot of core themes in it that are just brought to life in this adaption. Especially regarding Mina and and Lucy in the context of late Victorian society, and how they challenge social norms. Great!
Sure, there’s some ropey bits. It isn’t perfect. But maybe it could have been? Who knows. And what a pity we will never find out! But as a stand alone series, I feel this is pretty damn strong.

Thank You so Much. The quality of the disc were great and so was the price and fast delivery. Thanks a bunch.

Very engaging film, but then again I love Johnathan Rhys Meyers acting especially after watching him starring in the Brittish series “The Tudors”. Love his strut!
Only disappointing factor about this film for me is that there is no continuation, nor is there any in the works for one.😔
