It installed pretty easy (OK, tearing down my bass/tom assembly was a pain, but worth it). I followed the directions, and it installed just like they said it would. Make sure you really wipe down the area, so the velcro strips will stick better. I get a nice thud now, no matter how tight I crank the bass heads.

These are useful devices for muting your bass drum effectively, without over muting or slippage. I have 3 of these things for my 3 nice bass drums. I used bass drum heads with muffle rings on them in addition to these mutes and the combo makes my bass drums very easy to tune and sound good.

I was trying to decide between this product from DW or the solution from Evans, neither of which I had any experience with. I chose this one because I liked that it was still a ‘pillow’ for sound absorption but also was a dampener on both of the bass drum heads. The Evans product is designed only as a dampener and for the beater head alone. As I say, I can’t knock it because I have no experience with it, so it may be great. That said, I have to say, I’m very happy with this DW product. For what it is, it’s arguably a LITTLE pricey, but if you’re like me you’ll be very pleased. My bass is 22×18. The 18″ depth is important if you’re buying this. It has to hit both heads exactly as designed to do. The size it was made for was written in pen on the label, so I assume there are other lengths available if your bass is not 18″. The instructions tell you to insure you CLEAN the drum shell THOROUGHLY before installing the velcro strips that secure the pillow. You might want to use some moist wipe. I wiped the shell with a dry rag. Uh,no. There was still wood dust the adhesive strips found. If you travel with your kit, it’s key that the pillow not fall loose. That said, power THUMP away once it’s installed. Love it. Couldn’t be happier.

Fantastic piece of equipment. Gave my bass drum that powerful thud without any of the ringing overtones I was trying to avoid. Easy to install. Once it is in place you can forget about it. Always in the right position when the drum comes out of its case. Forget loose blankets or pillows. This is the way to go.
