There is a review of this item (below) that says this mount slips. In my experience it is rock solid. I don’t see any way that it could possibly slip. Of course that same review said that some knurling on the rail would have prevented this. The rail on this is product is knurled. I’m not sure if someone reviewed an older item that is now upgraded, or perhaps reviewed the wrong item.

I put this on a 24 inch bass drum. It makes the tom too high if you have the L arm mounted upright. With a little messing around, I mounted the L arm pointing down got the tom exactly where I wanted it. The memory locks are great inventions. They make it possible to set up at the exact angle the first time, every time. Not like in the old days when you had to mess with the height and angle very time you set up. As a bonus, the locks help keep everything where you put it.

The drum that I put this mount on did not have any sort of tom holder. Some serious measuring and comparing to another drum set was necessary to find the exact spot to drill the holes. You do not want to mess that part up. So take your time and do a lot of measuring.

Drum hard ware has come a very long way since my 1967 Ludwig set. This rail mount is as solid as a rock.

Did a major retrofit to my DW Collectors – this plus bass drum mounted cymbal holder and converting low hanging tom to floor tom took nearly 40 lbs. out of my hardware bag. My back is very happy.

My mount came on my DW special edition Buddy Rich tribute kit in the Classic series. It has some nice features like a quick tightening lever in the L-rod, and it came with some semi-nice features like the memory lock on the rail. The latter may be useful to some folks, but it also takes up some real estate on the rail itself, diminishing how far you can shift the tom position.

While the construction is typical DW perfection, the design is not. It incorporates the worst aspects of a rail mount. Specifically, it slips. A simple light knurling on the rail or the inside of the clamp that grabs it would have prevented that. I have to brace the rack tom that is on my kit against my snare drum to hold it in position. To me that is a major failing.

On the plus side, the hole pattern will fit the Walberg & Auge rail that was used by Ludwig, Slingerland, Leedy and others when this was the way to mount a tom. I measured it on my 1961 Slingerland lit as well as a Gretsch round badge kit. Of course it will not fit the Ludwig models that had the four-hole pattern that they used in the 1960s.

Also, if you are making a purchase decision as to whether this or the Gibraltar SC-GVRM Vint Rail Mount 10.5Mm L-Rod will best suit your needs I would personally opt for this one. I have owned and used both and this one is better constructed and sits a little lower for approximately the same price (at the time of this review). However, be aware that both are flawed and both have slipping problems.

If you are looking for a rail for a vintage kit you may want to check out the Steve Maxwell rail that is easy enough to find with a web search. That one is built to the old Walberg & Auge specs, but with better tolerances and is actually less apt to slip than this DW rail or the Gibraltar model.

I love my DW kit, but this rail is the weak link.

Excellent, does what I want with style! Bought the Gibraltar consolette and had little resonance for tom. This mount let’s the drum sing! Better design and less bulky. As always DW hit it out of the park!

This thing absolutely rules. I’ve always loved the look of the “banana rail” tom mount, but I’m a hard hitter, so I never thought of them as a serious option. DW has combined that classic look with their, as always, rock-solid hardware. I installed one of these on my Pork Pie kit and it looks absolutely killer. Easy to install, far more adjustable than old-school rail mounts, and a hell of a lot more durable. Love it.

Typical DW hardware rock solid, built like a tank. Very good well-made, well engineered, piece of equipment. I did have to reduce the height of it a little because it made my rack tom sit too high for my set up so I had to modify slightly. Other than that, this holds your tom firm without any chance of slippage or movement.

It also gives that old-school look that you had in the vintage sets but with up-to-date technology.

Dw’s rail mount tom holder is one of the best. Good features and it fits the hole pattern of my ludwig 1967 bass drum perfect. Very stable easy to adjust and fold down flat for pack up and also the arm can be removed easy for pack up if desired. Memory locks insure consistent setup. Can g9 wrong with this mount if you need or want a rail mount system
