Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP06

This air purifier is lacking a lot of key features and you’re better off buying a BP 03 model, even for business use. The lack of features isn’t really obvious right away by reading the listing. The only active monitoring is the CO2 on the purifier’s screen. It is supposed to purify the air from all sorts of other things (dander, pollen, etc) but there’s no way to monitor these things so it really isn’t that useful. You also can’t use this with the myDyson app so there’s no filter monitoring and no way to remotely turn it off or on. You can’t set it to auto, to turn on when needed either. These are a lot of missing features for the price, especially when you can get all these useful features and more for about a hundred dollars more. Dyson says that this is “engineered for business” but these are important features for everyone, business or not.

There are a few things that I do like about this air purifier though. I have a large all in one kitchen, dining, living room, and breakfast nook. It’s one huge open space and this purifier is the right size for the space. It really does move the air around and I notice that cooking smells are not as strong as they have been before I installed the air purifier. I also like the clean white color as opposed to the other models that don’t really fit my décor. Installation was very easy. The filters are already installed and all you need to do is gently place the top on the base and turn until it clicks. It’s easy to wheel around since it’s heavy. The filters are probably expensive but they should last 2.5 years for the Hepa and 1 year for the carbon based on the machine running 24 hours/day.

Bottom line, skip this model and get the Dyson BP03 (blue) if you’d like this purifier. This one lacks so many features.

We live in an older home without central ventilation so we had some concerns about our air quality. We purchased this large Dyson filter which has done an excellent job running constant and keeps the house air clean during the day and night.

This is, without a doubt, the best air purifier I have used. There are a few things I’d like to see changed, added and improved but I still think that it was very much worth it. Addressing some of the positives first:

– I personally love the modern and classic Dyson design and styling. This is very much subjective but I’m a big fan even though it may strike some people as a very sleek trashcan.

– Build quality is fantastic and all components of the design are clearly well thought out and addressed. It has wheels making it easy to maneuver around the house and to adjust directions.

– LCD display is easy to read and intuitive.

– Air purification has so far been fantastic. I don’t have the means to measure it precisely, but I have air purifiers in rooms directly adjacent to the living room where the Dyson is situated and since using the Dyson my air quality readings on the other purifiers shows a drastic improvement in air quality.

– In addition to what I mentioned above, the effective area of this purifier is fantastic. It easily covers my entire living room. From a pure performance standpoint, this is an excellent purifier and is the main reason why I am so happy with it. Filters are affordable and long lasting.

Now to address some of the negatives and other observations:

– No smart home integration which seems like a big minus here, even though it is not advertised as such. There is no remote/smartphone control at all which I find very surprising. It would be great to set it to a schedule or have it adjust based on air quality. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if this could be addressed via a firmware update if the hardware is capable of doing so but that is purely speculative.

– Air quality reading is limited to Co2 only and there are only two power levels. It would be nice to have more data available and have more fine tuning abilities.

Besides those few things, I still think this air purifier has made a great addition to my household. The wide area of coverage and filter lifespans make this a superior air purifier. Even though it is a significant investment, it is worthwhile if you are serious about a top performing air purifier.

I bought two of these and am very happy with them. Set it and forget it. Very quiet operation and noticeably less dust lands on my furniture. Large filter area only requires filter replacement every 5 years on the HEPA and 2 years on the charcoal.
Only problem I encounter is when the power goes out, it does not turn back on. I highly recommend this air purifier.
