This was a text book for my now completed first education class, “The Diverse Classroom”. We did not have to read the entire book, just Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 12, so I base my review on those chapers. This book is rich in detail on the challenges faced in contemporary classrooms. It is well written, and has very complete and thorough references. In addition to raising awareness of key issues, it provides many practical suggestions for application.

The other text book for the class was “Introduction to the Foundations of American Education” by James A. Johnson, et al. That book was not as good by comparison; it was much too preachy.

Purchased this book for a child psychology course I took last semester at teacher’s college. It helped me tremendously with the various theories and competencies I needed to be familiar with. The book is very reader friendly and makes studying easy by placing the key points on the side of the page for quick reference. The picture illustrations and bold print add to its effectiveness. If you’re looking for a solid psychology book on adolescents and the like, look no further.

I want to let anyone looking for a textbook on educational psychology to know how great this particular one is. It is well organized and easily read( the font sizes are great). The author is clear and concise, he has put definitions in the margins so that the reader does not have to go searching for them. He has filled the book with practical advice for the classroom and for future teacher certification.

My wife experienced a horrible time with this book because it was sold as the Ninth Edition, Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice by Robert Slavin. WRONG! It is a Pearson International Edition and it states this on the back: “This is a special international edition of an established title widely used by colleges and universities throughout the world. Pearson Educational International published this special edition for the benefit of students outside of the United States and Canada. If you purchased this book within the United States or Canada you should be aware that it has been wrongfully imported without the approval of the Publisher or Author.” No wonder my wife had such a hard time in her class! Her professor nor anyone could figure out why the wording or some of the information was different! The cover looks the same with the exception of the Pearson International Edition Title. We just passed it off thinking it nothing of it. When we went to resell it, it kept rejecting the ISBN.

Slavin’s book needs updating badly. His chapter on computers in the classroom is 10 years old and greatly out of date.
I think what was really boring was he trots out all the old studies back to Pavlov!
I mean aren’t we past Pavlov and his theories that mean nothing to children or adult education.
It was a trip down memory lane with 10 ways to say the same thing.
Dr Slavin time for a good revision and shortening of your tome’.
    It’s tedious and boring!

Educational psychology was the 4th psychology course I have taken. Slavin’s text was the most interesting and well-written psychology texts that I have used to far. It makes the theories interesting to read and is also full of information that is very pertinent to the classroom. The book is very current for the modern classroom. We didn’t finish the entire text in the summer course that I used it for, but I’m still planning on reading the entire book.
