This is a bitchin’ pedal!! I use it mostly with a Yahmaha digital piano as a means to add depth and instrument dynamics to our songs and it works wonders. It won’t create a “perfect” organ sound, meaning, it’s no replacement for a legit organ running a few grand. However, this is an insanely useful tool especially for guitarists who want to add some rich layers to their songs.

My favorite setting to use with a guitar is the Mellow Flutes. I turn the dry signal as high as it can go, and add a touch of organ underneath and it adds depth to chords and riffs like you would not believe!!

Initially, I was impressed with the c9 pedal. The organ tones were luscious, and had many possibilities. Then it went to crap on me and stopped working. I only used it a few times, then the organ tones stopped working. I still get a dry signal. In short, I’m stuck with a useless, unusable pedal.

This is brilliant gadget for producing organ sounds and tracking is super good too. You can do jon lords organ lines on the guitar if your playing technique is precise.

I returned this pedal and got an EHX Micro POG –which I am very happy with. Am running the micro POG in front of a holy grail max when I need more sustain. You can still get very close to some organ and Mellotron tones with the POG, with different knob settings. My problem with this C9 pedal is it just doesn’t reflect the way I play. I expect when I pluck a string or chord I will hear it within that second. Overtones, harmonies and sustain are all great, but I want to hear THAT note that I’m playing now, even if I’m playing it over the sustain, chorus or overtones of the note(s) I played a second or two ago. EHX is a great company. The tones on the C9 are all realistic sounding. If you have impeccable fret timing, patience and want a bunch of different keyboard samples this pedal may work for you. However I think in an effort to emulate the way keyboards and electronic organs work they have gone a bit overboard with the C9 and some other similar pedals that don’t feel ‘natural’ to a weekend warrior guitar player like me.

I love the C9. The better you play it, the better it sounds. If you play it like a keyboard player would play their keyboard, you will love it. If you blindly strum guitar chords and expect it to sound like you have a keyboardist, you may be disappointed. Played authentically, it sounds authentic. If you play cleanly, it tracks superbly.

Very nice item. Organ sounds range from take-me-out-to-the-ballgame vanilla tones to heavier Deep Purple inspired gutsy organs and a lot of 60’s-70’s inspired tones in between. No problems with track. Nice for doubling a guitar line with organ sounds (adds a lot of sustain and harmonics to simple lines) or playing organ sounds alone. Very easy to understand, no programming required. No problems with latency or tracking (it doesn’t trigger samples) so it should function very well in a live situation; no need for a fancy synth guitar pickup either. I have the Synth9, the C9, and the Mel9 will be the next to arrive. Only problem is that (as others have noted) there’s a pretty large range of volume depending on how you play so if you don’t want to deafen the club with a hard strum, think about running into a compressor pedal before running into the C9. Good job EHX!

Very cool pedal!…I did think I would use it more often though. The first few effects all kind of sound the same to me but I love the “Flutes” and “Shimmer” effect. My only complaint is once to go past the 12th or 13th fret on the guitar the effect sound is very quiet, especially when playing single notes.

Every now and then it’s great to have some organ fill especially on choruses of slow songs such as “Neon Moon” for example. I also use it with some OD for “Get Ready” and “Midnight Hour”. I really only use the Tone Wheel setting at gigs for it’s lush Hammond sound. When played in the mix it’s very convincing. As a stand alone you have a reasonable “organ-ish” sound. I use it with about 2:1 Dry:Organ so it’s really not overpowering but rather adding a lush sound to when appropriate to the songs. You do have to think differently when using it. For example strum once and let the organ swell into the chord rather than strum along like a guitar. I wish EHX had a slimmed down version with just this Tone Wheel option for $79.95. I think they’d sell a lot of them. At $221.00 for the C9 it’s a stretch for value. As mentioned just this one setting for $79.95 is killer. I hope this helps your decision.
