This release is definitely lazy on EA’s part – but instead of being critical like so many, I am thankful. Why? Because it’s priced appropriately. It does seem kind of odd to have to Google and apply fixes from the Internet to a product you paid for, but it does work on both Windows 7 and 8. Some people want a buy it and play it release – this is most likely not it, but with a regular price of $20 and currently 75% off that, I much prefer spending 30 minutes Googling and applying fixes than getting slightly modernized versions at an higher price.

For example, take AOE 2 and AOE Mythology that Microsoft has recently re-released. They are $20 and $30 respectively and while 100% compatible with modern systems, there is little updated with them to justify $50 for the two of them. They’ve both been 75% off making it $12.50 for the two of them. Still way more than this collection of 17 games. EA spent so little money on creating this release that they don’t charge much.

One thing that will take a bit of the pain out of this release is “C&C Ultimate Collection Launchers”. Google it, it will fix Generals and many other games that fail to launch out of the box.

The games themselves are great. I would have paid $5 for Generals and Zero Hour by themselves. It’s a no brainer for anyone who’s remotely a fan of the games.

Origin is fine – not sure what the complaints are with it. If you right click on a game and click “Properties” you can choose to have Origin not run alongside the game. Then you can play offline fine and Origin doesn’t even boot up or need to be running to play the games! That’s better than Steam.

C&C is a classic game. Bundle together increase a lot of value for you money. however, the value is not much unless you really want to play very old, out date game. (Thinking about very low resolution of graphic and a decade earlier of user interface. It might fun and pretty awesome 10 years ago but it does not guarantee you maybe feel it decent now.)

There are some recently C&C franchise (for example Red Alert 3 or C&C 4) which maybe sound attractive for you if you had never been play it before. However, it’s not fun at all. Especially, C&C4 it’s not an C&C anymore. It a different game that “rob” the name “C&C”. Graphic maybe look nice but gameplay is totally terrible. no base building, lack of economic strategy because no harvesting. It just control a unit to attack which waste of the game. The game is so dull because only main strategy is rock-paper-scissor of unit type. Sound like strategy game, are you serious?

I certainly sure that EA cannot sale any C&C title separately in the end. That’s why EA bundle everything together and to earn last dollar from this title. I really disappoint how EA treat C&C franchise like this.

If you are C&C fan and want to collect entire C&C games then this title is suitable for you. However, if you want to play a fun game, worth of your time, worth of your hard earn money please looking for other title, not Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection.

Other: The thumbnail said it comes with soundtrack but I cannot find soundtrack. If soundtrack is a primary reason for you to buy this game then you should not purchase this title since it’s not included.

Here is what you need to know. Yes, it does work on windows 10. These instructions are for Red Alert2 and YR. It took some work. After purchasing, check your email and you’ll get an email with an activation code. You must go to Origin (you’ll need to create an account) and enter your code in order to redeem it and get access to the downloads. After installing it, it would run in single player mode but no network or online play. In order to play online or Lan, you then have to install another app. This one is now where the Westwood server is apparently. Search for CNCNet. (again you’ll need to sign up) download the file CNCNet5_YR_installer You’ll need to install the one for yuri’s revenge. It will play RA2 and Yuri. I am not sure about the other games, I don’t play them. I would think there is a similar process for generals, etc. It may give you an option, I just haven’t looked. Also, when I first ran CNCNet it asked to update, I did. The current version is 7.7. Then, make sure you right click on the icon, Properties, compatability, click “run as administrator” apply and exit. You can then delete the shortcut that was created by Origin “command and Conquer RA2. You can run the app directly from this new link “Yuri’s revenge CnCNet”. Look for me “DNAFishing” and we can play a game. Hope the information helps.
Games listed on this channel :
Yuri’s revenge (in the setup you can select RA2)
    Dawn of the Tiberium Age
    Twisted insurrection
    Tiberion sun
    Mental omega
    YR- red resurrection
