Without burying the lead, Dragon Age The Veilguard is a solid game. I find myself looking forward to my free time so I can play as much as this game possible. 5/5
*The Good
-The graphics and art style look phenomenal, especially if you have a medium or high-end rig. I’m playing on an rtx4060 and the game looks amazing.
-The animations, voice acting, and SFX quality and design are all top notch. The face animations and body language are very good as well.
-The level design is just like all the previous DA games; not open-world, but still ripe for exploration. Even if you’re retreading old ground, there is still plenty to do and see.
*What’s different/The Modern audience
-COMBAT. The previous Dragon Age games were CRPGs with Real-time with Pause combat. They put focus on more strategical approaches. With combat in Dragon Age The Veilguard, it’s more akin to the Dragon’s Dogma games but with more options and depth. No, there isn’t an auto-attack function like previous titles. I’d go as far as saying DAV is an ARPG with third person perspective. Regardless of this change, combat is incredible, well paced, and addicting.
-STORY & TONE. The story isn’t bad, it just isn’t BioWare good. I choose to play BioWare games because their writing and dialogue are usually 2nd to none. Here, the writing in general is watered down. Again, not bad by any means, it’s OK, but it isn’t BioWare good. Same goes for the overall tone of the setting.
-MUSIC/SCORE. Gone are the days where you would sit at the menu to enjoy and soak in the music of Origins, DAII, and Inquisition. In DAV, the music is not memorable at all. The music isn’t bad and sounds good when you can hear it, but it isn’t memorable compared to previous games. As a stand alone game when not comparing it to previous DA titles, the music still isn’t memorable.
*The Bad
-DIALOGUE. I’m disappointed with the dialogue. This has nothing to do with the controversy that is sweeping across the general gaming communities, but in general the dialogue has no gravitas. The characters/companions that you meet are well written, its just that these characters have nothing interesting to say. When they do talk, it’s as if they’re speaking to you like you’re a child. The dialogue is very watered down and generic.
Overall, Dragon Age The Veilguard is a solid game. I find myself looking forward to my free time so I can play as much as this game possible. 5/5

I was hesitant about buying this game after reading several reviews where it was criticized for having a “poor story” and “too preachy”, which I suspect is because there is at least one character who doesn’t identify with the gender they were born with, but that is a minimal part of the story, and as far as I’m concerned, done thoughtfully and sensitively. Other than that, I’m pretty confused about the criticism of the game itself to the point that I’m wondering if any of those other reviewers actually even played the game. I honestly think it’s one of the best games I’ve played in years, and I’m glad I took a chance on it.
The characters are well written with interesting back stories, the quests are both interesting and challenging over 20 hours in. While not exactly open world (you can’t get to EVERY place you see) but you do have the ability to go where you choose and explore what you want, whether you have a quest there or not, and I really enjoy that aspect of finding puzzles and solving them, as well as getting a good taste of the various locations.
The graphics are amazing, the voice acting is very, very good, as well as the dialogue and accompanying options for how you respond to your friends and enemies, which also affects how the story plays out. I’m able to run everything at max settings on a pretty decent laptop, and often find myself admiring a lot of the details of various areas and objects.
I guess the best testament is the fact that I’m entertained by it daily and have yet to find myself bored in the slightest. This is easily the best Dragon Age game yet produced, and the love the dev team put into it shows everywhere.

I’m about 7 hours into playing and I must say its fantastic. Don’t pay any attention to the negative revues because those are just EA haters who haven’t even played it! Character creation is great, graphics look amazing and so far the story is top notch. I’ve played DA from the begining. Its about the story always has been always will be. Highly recommend!

The Good
Gear system is nice. I enjoy the art style. Runs super smooth and haven’t found any bugs yet.
The Bad
The combat mechanics are a big turn off for me. You can only equip 3 spells at a time and are much more limited over the control of your companions. Gameplay got pretty stale because of this about 20hrs in. I can easily beat dragons that are double my level, it just takes a long time. Also, I’m not a huge fan of the dialog interactions with your companions. They feel a bit less dynamic compared to the previous games.
