Travis –
I’ve been playing the NHL franchise since 1997. Over the years, the graphics have improved, but that’s about it. There are a bunch of gameplay features that were present 20 years ago, but completely missing in the releases of recent years. For one, there is basically zero pregame immersion. They used to show the outside of the arena as it was loading, then there was a pregame scene where they showed some of the players stats, the goalies, etc. It was similar to how Madden or the new NCAA Football game have a pregame scene. Maybe most people skip it, but I love it, and it makes me feel like I’m actually watching a real game on TV. I miss that.
Another thing…they used to have 3 stars at the end of the game, where the top 3 players of the game came out and did a wave to the crowd. I loved it. I miss that. Wish they’d bring it back. Also, there are about a billion jerseys for the Boston Bruins…but no yellow pooh bear alternates from the late 90s and 00s. How and why are these excluded? They used to be in the game. But haven’t been the past couple releases. Also, a bunch of other sweet alternates from the 90s are missing, including the LA Kings “burger king” jerseys. But a bunch of other alternates are included. Wish they’d include all of them.
Are my gripes minor? Yes. Do I still enjoy the game? Yes. But it does irk me that there were features present decades ago which are no longer part of the game. It’s a step back. Also, it doesn’t seem that it’s possible to turn of no trade clauses in dynasty mode. It’s terrible, and has messed up the way I play dynasty mode, which is something I’ve been doing as long as the game has had it.

Once I saw Jack Hughes on the cover, I knew I had to get it. I played all the time and really enjoy the game. The PS five makes this game a lot more realistic and I really enjoy playing it. Let’s go Devils.

Amazon Customer –
Very similar game play as last year. Going to play again shortly. I recommend it to anyone else who likes the NHL Franchise from EA.

Unlike last year, especially Hockey Ultimate Team, they took away features that made the game fun and enjoyable. Last year had it where your daily objective collectibles went towards something great and made grinding more fun. Now it just goes to upgrading one player you had to acquire via a tutorial HUT Moments list. EA, this is why I gave up on Madden and now looks like NHL as well. This is why it doesn’t pay to make games into cash flow factories with mediocre gameplay.
Steve –
I just bought a brand new ps5 and bought this game. After installation the console drive revs up as if it was a plane about to take off and then completely crashes the console. The game is completely unusable. I looked online and apparently this is an issue. How can a company sell a product that doesn’t even work? Insanity
Thank you. –
Thank you for the game.
