I have always loved these strings since the 1st time I ever used them. Over 10yrs ago I was at a music store in Western Canada and was told these strings would no longer be in stock and I bought all they had. The other day I decided to check Amazon and found them…and at a great price as well. I put them on the other day and the next day they were still in tune! The tone is so beautiful and bright; I sound as if I have a new guitar. They do last a long time and even when they get dull they still sound good. I bought light instead of extra-light and might even try medium light next time. The d-string (which is the one that I find usually gets out of tune) is perfect. I bought a 3-pack, they came the next day and got free shipping through Prime. If you want to try them just get one set but it’s expensive that way due to the shipping costs. I have tried many strings, (Martin bronze, D’addario, Gibson) and I swear by these strings. I also used to play professionally so even with 4-6nt/week use they lasted a long time.

I always like this version of strings, and these are a great value. There are other brand names that are more recognizable, but these have lasted as long as the more expensive ones. They ring out and sustain nicely. Great value and highly recommend!

These have a wonderful warm tone and are fairly light so will be down a little in volume but not too bad. Certainly easier on the fingers but don’t expect them to all of a sudden make your acoustic feel like an electric! Barre’s are quite a bit easier but not electric-easy.

I bought the light version of these strings. My previous strings were also lights, but these seem lighter and easier to press. I don’t have to press as hard to make chords, so it makes playing easier and more enjoyable. And I’m actually beginning to learn barre chords, which I really haven’t done much of before

UPDATE: The below review was for the “Light” gauge. I recently tried the “Medium Light” gauge on the same guitar and experienced no issues with intonation. It’s worth noting that the light gauge is slightly lighter than most other brands.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I recently purchased a new acoustic guitar (Seagull Mini Jumbo Performer) and thought I’d try a different brand of strings than my usual D’Addarios. On first impression after trying these I was blown away at the brightness and bass clarity that these offer. I was sold right away; these would now be my “forever” strings. So I bought a 3 pack. I then started to notice that my new guitar always sounded a bit off when fretting up the fingerboard. I wasn’t sure if it was my ears playing tricks on me, or if the guitar had intonation problems, or if I just needed another new set of strings. I put another set of Ernie Balls on and things were sounding a bit better. Although, still, the low E string always sounded slightly sharp when fretting up the fingerboard. So I bought a more accurate tuner, which confirmed what I was hearing. So I went to work adjusting the intonation on my guitar. Little by little; adjusting the truss rod, sanding the saddle and sanding the nut at the E string specifically. I was making slight improvements but I was never really able to improve the intonation enough to please my ear. After going through all 3 sets trying to get the intonation right, I realised that I didn’t remember hearing this issue when I first got the guitar. It shipped from the factory with Godin strings (which I’ve always assumed are D’Addarios in disguise), so I ordered some new D’Addarios to test my theory. After putting on the D’Addario strings I immediately noticed a slight lack of brightness and dynamics compared to the Ernie Balls. But my intonation problem was gone! I confirmed it with my tuner as well.
In the end, I’ll have to stick to D’Addario. But I prefer the sound and feel of the Ernie Ball strings. After all the intonation frustrations I experienced, I can’t recommend them. I never thought that a brand of string could make this much of a difference. And if anyone had tried to tell me I wouldn’t have believed it. Maybe it’s just how these strings interact with my specific guitar, but I would suggest trying one pack and checking for an intonation issue before buying the 3 pack.
High Standards for Online Purchases –
Over the years I’ve switched from D’Addario to Martin strings for my acoustics, but never tried Ernie Balls until now. I’m into this first set by about a week now, and probably a dozen or so hours. I like them so far, but I tend to like my strings a little on the old side to find their true tone, so we’ll see in time how they do. My first impression is that they have a warmer “new” sound than comparable Martins. That might be an advantage especially for those playing instruments with warmer tonewoods like mahogany tops, etc. I also noticed that the strings feel a little “looser” and easier to fret or bend than new Martins.
So far, I’m glad I tried these. I like my Martin strings a lot for their brighter tone initially and their warmth once they settle in. These will have a place in my string box for sure for when I want something a little mellower. I’m curious to see how they are after they find their level. Will update.
