Works like it says it does decent sound decent eq for sound correction. Doesn’t have “desktop class” power nor shoud it for size and portability. Tested 4.4 and 3.5 connectors – both work well.
App is a little bit clunky but not terrible. Battery life was enough for flight time cross continent (4-5 hours). Settings controls are as good as one should expect for a 4 button device.

I bought the Fiio BTR7 after seeing some glowing reviews of it on AudioScienceReview.com (ASR), an audio hardware review site that uses a fancy audio analyzer to assess how well DACs and other other audio equipment reproduce sound signals.
ASR concluded that the BTR7 is on par with desktop-class DACs and amplifiers in its ability to reproduce music.
The sound quality of Fiio’s products have always been outstanding, and the BTR7 takes it up another notch. The BTR7’s signature is clean, smooth, and satisfying, with no emphasized frequency ranges or audible distortion. The BTR7 uses a two quality ESS DAC chips, a quality clock source, and two THX-certified amplifier chips to produce an exceptionally clean signal, especially for a portable device.
I mainly use the BTR7 as a plug-in DAC for my MacBook, but its sound in Bluetooth mode is also exceptional. It supports any Bluetooth codec you can throw at it; I mainly use AAC (as an Apple user), but if your phone supports LDAC or AptX, it can decode and amplify those too.
The power output is outstanding. The BTR7 can easily power my Sennheiser HD6XX headphones, at a whopping 300 ohms. I can even power my insensitive HifiMan Sundaras with the unbalanced output, though the balanced 4.4 mm output can drive them even better. The BTR7 will drive any headphone you have with no problem, and turning up the volume won’t lead to distortion.
The only downside of this product is the software. Not only are the menus on the device hard to navigate, but the companion app, Fiio Control, contains many extraneous features and lacks a user-friendly user interface. For example, the equalizer function is incredibly hard to understand, as it doesn’t label the individual frequency bands, so you have to guess what frequencies you’re equalizing based on the shape of the frequency curve.
Overall, the BTR7 is the best portable DAC/amp on the market right now. If you want a powerful Bluetooth amplifier that will drive your full-sized headphones, or simply want a portable external DAC/amp for a laptop, this is a great solution. I’m impressed with what Fiio has accomplished in building such a compact, well-engineered product at an affordable price. I highly recommend the BTR7, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Fantastic portable Amp/DAC. I purchased because I wanted a bluetooth wireless option to use my IEMs with my Samsung S24 Ultra aswell as my Nvidia Shield TV Pro. This thing let’s my IEMs get very loud, feeding enough power to let them shine. You need to use the 4.4mm BAL output to get the most out of it. It provides very clean audio, small form factor, battery powered, connect to multiple devices simultaneously. The global EQ is awesome, I can use with any Bluetooth device and the settings are saved on the BTR7, not the phone with the app. So I can switch to my PC and my Nvidia Shield and keep the same EQ and system settings. Love it so far. Will update if there are any issues later on.
I attached some pictures of the DAC and the phone app and settings.

I’m writing this review after receiving a replacement unit. I had read a couple of reviews about screen corruption and weird issues. I had these, replaced the unit, and now my new one has fixed every issue!
It pairs to the app flawlessly, has crazy bluetooth range, an amazing sound and can drive 95% of whatever you’d want to be mobile (unless you’re crazy and want huge cans on your head all the time).
I find myself getting lost in music a lot more with this device, it truly is fantastic. The sound is rather neutral to the headphones you use, and VERY clear! As a portable device this thing nearly rivals my Schiit stack! (Bifrost 2 & Lyr 3)
This thing is absolutely worth the money. It feels quality and is made of metal and glass, comes with a free case and is very sexy looking. If you have issues like the app not picking it up with bluetooth, a poor connection range, or a battery that dies in like 3 hours, or loud pops when starting music get a replacement. Seriously, even the bad unit sounded fantastic. The menu is simple to use, and you can change some functionality of the devices buttons in the app (android only).
This device is truly a godsend in the wireless audio age. ANY true audiophile headphones/earphones will absolutely smoke wireless only audio. I currently run a set of Isine10s on this device, as well as occasionally using a few other headsets like the 1More over ears, or LCD 2’s or other IEMs like Westone w80s.
I’m leaving this at 4 stars ONLY because of the bad unit I got. There are a few other people that had the same issues I did, they replaced and loved it. So do I.
EDIT:
I am dropping an edit just to note something from a few weeks of usage. The battery life is fantastic IF you use lower power headphones or keep the volume moderate. If you use really hungry headphones or iems, expect around 3-4 hours of battery life! I don’t see this as an issue given you can charge them out of anything you plug into. I have used a charger that reads how fast it’s charging, and it only pulls up to 3 watts from my usage.
The Bluetooth volume selector in the app makes a BIG difference in volume. If you set it up high it’s basically a high gain switch itself. I mainly use this unit wired but the few times I played with the app to build an EQ and played with the BT slider, it made a big difference.
Also want to confirm steam deck compatibility! Plug and play with no issues, yay! Just to note, if you equalize your headphones through the app and use this device wired, you have to switch U-Audio to 1.0 mode otherwise it will not EQ. (Steam deck doesn’t have an eq, for those wondering)
This device is still great and I use it daily!

Love the sound, pretty much do it all, powerful, love the EQ, so far no complaint
