I choose this to replace my previous DAC/Amp for my desktop, which was a Schiit Hel. I only use one of the inputs (USB) on the Fiio K5, and use this to power my Fostex T50RP MK3’s. Which require some power.. I found this to be a great replacement, naturally these are without a microphone input; Which I think is fine. I found the analog microphone input on the Schiit Hel to be poor quality, and better handled with even a generic USB microphone instead. Which I had to purchase separately to use this device over the schiit hell and still use a microphone. The Fiio K5 has a bit more power than the Schiit Hel, but to be honest I thought the difference would be more apparent. In reality I vaguely notice the power increase, but it perhaps sounds more clear in the upper range instead. However, I find the sound quality to be far superior to the Schiit Hel.. I’m not much of an audiophile, but I find the Fiio K5 to show more pronounced bass and mids. I think it’s a worthwhile upgrade. My previous setup (Schiit Hel) has been RMA’d a few times, and I don’t want to deal with it anymore. I can’t speak poorly of their customer service at Schiit, but having to send a product back 1-2 times over 3 years isn’t fun. Hoping this Fiio K5 has less issues. I will update if there are any. So far, quite happy with the product, sounds great, easy to setup. No special drivers needed on windows 10. Only thing noticed so far is the device can get warm over extended use… No issues with this yet however.

Before you buy an amp, look up Crinacle’s video about amps on Youtube. Only buy this product if you have a noisy or quiet audio source, or seriously power-hungry headphones. Many lower-end or even midrange headphones don’t need an amp. If you’re trying to make the $40 pair of cans you randomly found on Amazon sound better, then take this $200 and spend it on a set of Sennheiser HD 6XX instead, or any other decent pair of headphones. I promise you that will make a MUCH bigger difference.
What this product is great for is if you already have a good pair of headphones, but your audio source is crummy. When using the USB source, this DAC/AMP will provide loud, distortion-free, and noise-free audio quite effectively, no matter how crappy the device it’s plugged into is. And it can power many of the best headphones on the market while doing it. Just a few years ago, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything this good for this cheap.
Where it loses a star is in comparison to the Topping DX3 Pro+. That DAC/AMP combo uses the same DAC as this device and costs the same price, but it comes with more features such as a digital display and bluetooth connectivity. The FiiO K5Pro feels a little sparse in comparison, but it DOES have an excellent knob, which is the most important thing. This product scores 5/5 in knobfeel, and for that, I give it four stars overall.

This is a fantastic DAC. I’m just getting into better audio, and this one looked as good as any. The manual indicates you need to download drivers to use the USB option, but Windows 11found it without the driver. The optical didn’t work for me, so I had to go that USB route. I doubt there is much, if any, in sound quality. The footprint of the DAC is small enough so it fits under my monitor. I like the three gain settings. When paired with a set of good headphones, I’m using Sennheiser HD 6XX cans, and the sound is amazing. The volume goes far above what you can get with a PC alone. I just have to remember to turn it off!
Well worth the purchase.

Por 240€ esto no vale la pena de ninguna de las maneras, tengo varios dacs y amps más baratos de la competencia y todos suenan mejor. Mi opinión es parecida a otros en cuanto al fiio k5 pro y esta versión ESS, pagas por las conexiones que tiene y su versatilidad gracias a ellas, pero no por el sonido, que es una decepción enorme debido a los agudos tan exagerados que tiene, si tienes auriculares brillantes, sibilantes o con unos agudos aunque sean un poco fuertes este fiio k5 pro ess te destrozará los oídos, no es un sonido nada agradable.
Test hecho con AKG K361, Sennheiser HD598 y Hifiman he400se. Comparado con una variedad de dac amps hechos por LG, xiaomi y asus.

Was using the min fosi k5 pro, and this gave me the much needed power, with the option to stack my other dac. Overpowerd gaming sound for the win.
Runs on the more treble side but is very powerful. Works great with hard to run headsets. Also the option to stack it is great ! The audio out has no switch so if its pluged and powed you have sound on multiple devices.

Works great but.. had a power cut that lasted for about 1minute and now it does not work at all. No power, just a popping sound.
So, great device, sound quality was the best ive heard but yeah maybe i got unlucky who knows. I do use a surge protector and have been fine in the past.

Maneja fácilmente cualquier audífono hifi en el mercado y brinda un sonido fiel, balanceado pero con cierto calor y carácter muy disfrutable. Full disclosure, I ended up returning this unit because I ended up upgrading to the K9 Pro. So if I returned it, why am I still giving it a rave review? Because, for the money, this is a fantastic DAC/Amp. The amp side provides plenty of power to your headphones. The layout of the unit is very straight forward, simple, yet large potentiometer that controls the power and volume. Flip switches for the gain and the source select and then the headphone input. Very easy to use and a lightweight amp that performs very well. I used this amp to drive Audeze LCD-GX and while that is a pretty efficient headphone, this amp provided lots and lots of amplification. I used the amp in low gain and it still got quite loud with headroom to spare.
So there are a few reasons I ended up upgrading to the K9 Pro and returning this model. One, I wanted bluetooth capability; being able to stream music from my phone was something I really wanted. Another was I wanted to be able to use balanced cables in my system. Additionally, I was looking for a solution that would help reduce jitter and pops and noise while I was using the optical SPDIF input. My television is notorious for having all of those things, so I tried many, many solutions, in order to mitigate that, including SPDIF filters, digital reclockers, different cables, HDMI extractors, etc, and what I landed on was the Fiio K9 Pro. So this is not a knock on the K5 Pro because this is a $200 DAC/Amp. Rather versus the K9 Pro which is over 3x the price, at $700, this review is a reason for me to explain, if I didn’t want/need any or all of those things, the K5 Pro would absolutely still be in my system because sound quality-wise and usability-wise the K5 Pro is a fantastic value. If you are looking for a high quality sounding DAC/Amp at a great value, this Fiio unit really should be one you should try.
