Grandkids asked for a pair of these and I shopped around a lot. There are plenty of places charging twice this much! So this seller is a great choice. As for the product it’s great. There’s something wholesome about a toy that’s not made of plastic. And I think these will outlive any plastic sled. Sure they may end up with some dents but so what, they’ll still work with a dent, unlike a plastic one that would crack if it hit a rock and eventually fall apart.
I noticed some reviewer had one come with the handle not secured so I took ours out of the box and inspected them the minute they arrived (happy to have read his advice because otherwise I’d likely have just left them in the box til they were given to the kids). Don’t be careless and end up accepting a faulty one. But that goes for any product.
I just wish they came in multiple colors, so we could tell which one belongs to whom. I guess customizing them with stickers would be a good idea.

This thing is legit. For those reviewers complaining about it not being sturdy, I have no idea what they must expect out of a saucer. I had a beat-up metal one when I was a kid that was much more lightweight than this, and that’s where my baseline is for expectations. This thing must weigh 5 lbs. It’s very thick and heavy. It definitely feels like it would bend or warp if I rode it too much (I’m 170+ lbs), but if I sit in the middle, it’s no problem. Not sure if it would bend under the weight of a lesser man. But I can’t imagine a more sturdy sled. In fact, that’s my problem with it. It’s so heavy that I can’t let my kids use it without close supervision. This thing will knock teeth out if it collides with you. For that reason alone, I have to deduct 2 stars. It really is only good for solo sledding or for supervised sledding. Woe be the parent that lets their kid take this out with a friend or on a slope with other kids…. The weight also makes it not viable for my 6 year old to carry up the hill without complaining. Her complaints are legit, since the rope handles wedge your fingers in, since the saucer is so heavy. I wouldn’t carry it up the hill without thick gloves on, as it would be painful even for an adult, since the rim digs into your fingers. Maybe instead of this, look for a cheap aluminum sled and get a new one every year?? That said, it sleds nice – with a lightweight payload at least. Spins well. I’ll keep it since shipping it back must cost a fortune.

I used the sled to creat a bird bath out of a dead tree. I tried a resin basin but it wasn’t strong enough. That’s when I thought of a sled. It’s a good solid sled which I’m sure is great for sledding. And as for a bird bath it works great for that too.

Have had too many cheap plastic saucers blow up on my kids so I got this one to ensure that we always had a functional saucer on hand. Works great and I recommend this product but they are much heavier that plastic. My four year old definitely got tired/complained about carrying it up the hill.

We haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet, but it seems similar the the saucer I had as a kid. Will update once it snows again.

*UPDATE Have used a few times to pull my daughter to school, and it glides over the snow easily. Still haven’t tried it on a hill yet.

** UPDATE: Was used on some hills at the park, and I’m told it worked well and was really fast (the fastest sled there). However, now it has dents in the bottom. I wasn’t there, and I think the dents are from a full-grown man riding in it, but it says on the label that the max weight is 250 lbs, and he’s maybe 170. Still works though.

I looked for good sleds to bring on our only trip to the snow this year; I wanted to be able to take advantage of “wild snow” along the way in case we saw a good sledding spot, and make sure that our kids + friend could sled at the same time. My search was limited by size (it needed to fit into the hatchback of our smallish car, which meant it had to be less than 40″). We ended up road-testing three different kinds:
–Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer
    –Flexible Flyer Steel Saucer
–Downhill Sprinter Toboggan Snow Sled By Slippery Racer
The winner? The last one: The toboggan-style sled offered the most control, and while small at 35″ long, was still big enough to fit two small 10-year-olds. The plastic held up well to lots of use on rugged terrain. However, a close second-best was the Flexible Flyer metal saucer, which was very sturdy and had a curved bottom (similar to other plastic saucers). And HUGE PLUS for not being plastic….we saw so many broken plastic sleds littering the slopes. Surprisingly, in terms of cost, it was just about the same as the two other plastic options we bought. It’s heavier than the plastic versions but that should only be a consideration if you’re hiking a considerable distance. The Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer was our least favorite. It has a flat bottom, so if you’re sledding on a gentle slope, it doesn’t move and you have to push yourself to the bottom with your feet. We saw other people using more typical curved plastic saucers that handled the same gentle slope well. However, the flat-bottomed saucer did provide welcome friction when going down a steep, icy slope. But the kids preferred the toboggan anyway since they could ride at the same time.

I bought this snow disc for my grandkids, 4 and 7, after paying $10 each for 2 plastic disks that broke within a couple weeks of purchase. The price was right for an all metal disk and this will last for many, many years I am sure. I was surprised at the thickness of the metal certainly much thicker than those aluminum saucers in my day. The kids get more speed and distance now when sliding. Naturally it’s not as lightweight as a plastic disk but that doesn’t seem to take away from the fun they are having. (I tied a longer rope to the handles so they could pull it behind them easily.) Also, it will glide easily if you like to pull your grandkids around when the snow is not too deep. Very happy with this purchase.
