I’ve bought two of these. Easy to install. You can use in conventional manner to store things on top but I have used this one to store bikes below (rated at 300 lbs). Yes, you need to keep the area clear below to unload/offload but this allows us to walk by, declutter the floor and give access to other areas. Definitely plan on using a drill to raise/lower. It is 1/10th the price of other similar device sold as bike storage.

It was a little tricky making sure that all the measurements for the brackets were correct and the necessary clearances were just right. Other than that, the installation was fairly simple. It’s actually pretty cool — a very convenient storage shelf.
One issue I had was one of the main eye-bolts was split on the end where the threads are, which prevented me from being able get the locknut to go on. I called the customer support line and the lady was super helpful and after I sent her some pictures of the broken bolt, she immediately took care of the issue. They shipped me a new part, which I received 3 days later. I couldn’t be happier. Awesome company!

I think my headline sums it up. These things are extremely well designed, OVER ENGINEERED for SAFETY and you will never be afraid to be standing underneath one.
One minor complaint about the installation manual — HEY FLEXIMOUNTS…THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 0.20″ DRILL BIT!
Now, this might seem like a nit, but when you are putting heavy 3″ long lag bolts into overhead 2×6 ceiling joists, it is absolutely critical to use EXACTLY the right size drill. I had to stop in the middle of the project to go do the conversion, then go find a 13/64th drill bit (0.203″), and THEN after finding I needed a HEAVY 3/8th drive socket wrench and nearly breaking one of the bolts (holes too small) I decided to measure the bolts that came with the system. I found that the correct drill size is actually 7/32nds (0.022″). After that, the installation went fine.
The only mistake I made was to try to install this without a helper. I did get it done without any mishaps, but had a couple close calls. FIND A HELPER!

Wow. This product was a lifesaver, well a back saver to be honest, but still, one of my most satisfying purchases I’ve made in years. I had originally chosen a similar product that was $79 more and appeared to be little more hefty, however, after placing my order I received two shipping delays weeks after paying and was advised it would ship in another month or so. I decided to cancel the order and clicked on the similar items tab below the order and I am so happy I did. This product was considerably less expensive and it shipped immediately, arriving the next day. The ropes are steel braided and encased in color coded plastic to help ensure that setup is correct. The entire product is very sturdy and lifts and lowers evenly and flawlessly. I tried the hand crank but using my cordless drill made it effortless. I have a fishing kayak and gear loaded in it which altogether weighs about 150lbs. This thing has made loading and unloading such a breeze as I simply back my truck up to where my tailgate is even with the deck and slide it in the bed and simply do the reverse when unloading. No more back pain and frustration! I used to avoid going on a day trip because of all the hassle but this thing has made it so effortless. Installation was simple as the template is precise. You simply need to locate your joists (studs) and tape it firmly to the ceiling using the supplied tape, which is very strong. It’s literally that easy. I have every bit of faith that this thing can hold the 300lbs as advertised and probably more. This is a solid product and has saved space AND made loading and unloading a breeze.

I recommend reading all the instructions on assembly first. Then begin assembly. I used my staple gun to hold the template up. Worked a lot better than the tape.

– packaging is top-of-the-line. Not overdone, but thoughtfully executed. Metal pieces protected by cardboard interleaves. Mechanical and product ends by molded Styrofoam.
– Comes with a install template. Look, when working over your head on anything on the ceiling, it is hard to make accurate measurements. This kit came with tape to attached the template. Easy release tape that won’t tear of the finish when you remove it. That’s thoughtful. Something you would only expect from the toppiest of top-notch. (yes, I have a PhD. Leave me alone). Once the template is inplace (I assume you’ve already located the ceiling joists), place the hardware, mark, predrill (of course), and then attach with the included carriage bolts.
– Heavy duty. The brackets and hardware are all clearly well-engineered for safety, utility, and long-life.
– Comes with all the tools you need to install. But, be aware, you’ll want a powerdrill. You can do this manually. But, you’ll need more time and more pain killers at the end.
CONs
– This is designed to handle up to 300 pounds. Therefore, the gearing matches that design. It takes a lot of turns to lift the shelf to the ceiling. But, again, that’s because it is well engineered. You’ll want to use that electric drill to do the work. And, when you do, there are no CONs.
