My grandpa was a pilot (small, private planes) and has always been interested in them. He and my grandma actually bought their house because it was close to a private airport and he could watch the planes fly overhead. He also loves history so he really loves this book.

This book has it all, so much incite into the first flights and so much detail on what’s going on recently in the world of aviation, and wonderful pictures throughout! This is a highly readable and compelling work that can be dipped into like a coffee table book … and I mean that in a very good way. This does not need to be read chronologically, you can select a chapter that really interests you and fill your boots as they are all so well written and illustrated. Even manned spaceflight gets its own chapter. This would be a brilliant and engaging education guide for youngsters but still having plenty of gravitas for the older more informed reader too. If I were to recommend one book to the totally ignorant about aviation it would have to be this one frankly ,as it covers all the bases This has my highest recommendation so be sure not to miss this !

My boyfriend is an aerospace engineering student and absolutely loves this book. Every now and then when we are sitting around he will open it up and flip through a portion of it an admire the beautiful colors photos. It is also pretty informative he tells me. It is a nice book with a lovely matte finish. Get the hardback. It is worth it.
