If you are tired of being irritated at the slow speed, small max sheets-at-a-time settings, and frequent jams of the classic office supply store paper shredder, it’s well worth considering stepping up to this GBC ShredMaster.

I’m attaching a picture to give a sense of the size difference between this and the typical office supply store shredder. It’s a little overwhelming for a home office that’s pressed for space, and might be overkill if you don’t do much shredding.

But, if you’re looking at this product and taking the time to read reviews of it, you probably do more shredding than the average bear. Maybe you are in charge of office equipment or supplies for a small office, maybe you have a busy home office. This line of shredders is clearly worth considering.

It’s heavy and unless you’re fairly strong you’ll need two people to manipulate it into place. It arrives assembled with the instructions in the waste bin and a power cord to plug in. The “manual” is heavily picture-oriented, as is a series of small pictures across the top surface of the shredder itself. So, it’s easy to get up and running, and makes a strangely satisfying, not-terribly-loud shredding sound. In the early stages I haven’t been able to get it to jam using the recommended 20 pages or fewer. It’s pretty dang solid.

The two problems I have with it are these:
    1) all the buttons across the top are flat to the surface of the unit, and it’s a little hard to tell if they are just indicators or actual buttons to press. It takes some getting used to.
    2) the waste bin, which is about 3/5 of the height of the unit, slides out towards you for emptying. When it’s open, the last button on the right of the readout lights up red. Useful, “We’re not shredding, the door is open!” However, this unit is VERY sensitive and persnickety when it comes to deciding whether the door is open. I’ve had it closed and the red light is on, and just barely touched the left side of it, causing a small audible click and the red light to go off and the blue “ready to print” light go on.

#2 is alarming. I’m willing to consider that this is just a user error problem, and maybe I’ll figure it out over time.

So I’ll give it 4 stars. However, if it continues like this or even gets worse, that could easily go down to 1 or 2. I’m hoping not! When it’s working, this is awesome, and over time it will absolutely pay for itself, eliminating the kinda-costly semi-annual trips to the shredding service. Here’s hoping!

I have never been disappointed with anything wearing the GBC logo. This shredder is no different. Perfect for a home office or for a shared shredder in a small office. This is not an industrial workhorse, so if you are shredding 1,000’s of documents a day, this is not the unit. But it can handle the occasional big job without overheating. However, if you shred a couple hundred or so a day, this could be perfect. It’s fast and quiet, I had no issues feeding up to 20 sheets of 20 lb copier paper at a time.. I had a stack that took me almost an hour to complete and the unit chewed them up without jamming or overheating. I did not have to use the reverse function as I had no jams. The 8 gallon collection bin is a decent size so you don’t have to constantly empty it out while shredding. Goes right through the occasional paper clip and passes staples like they are not even there. Credit cards and CD’s also pass through with ease. All in all, a nice mid size shredder from a company that consistently produces quality products.

I was soooo excited to finally get a shredder! I really loved this GBC paper shredder!! It definitely is a shredmaster!

I’ve never owned a shredder before but my parents have. Theirs always get jammed. Like constantly. This one is for at home use for sure. Max 20 sheets at a time but that’s still a lot for what I’d use it for like bills and anything with my name on it. It never got jammed, never overheated. Not even once! I was so impressed!! But then again at the price I would hope it wouldn’t! The collection bin is kind of small but it would still fit a kitchen size garbage bag (we use force flex so they are kind of small and you can tie it off on the sides). It has simple directions.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend this for at home use. It’s a bit pricey but I think it’s certainly for the quality and that it’ll be lasting me probably the majority of my lifetime! Very happy.

    Good:
    -Large capacity bin.
-Capable of shredding many sheets at one time.

    Bad:
    -Does not shred credit cards.

I did not like this shredder because it is not durable. The door mechanism that tells the machine that the door is open or closed was broken off and loose in the drawer. The drawer itself is slightly misaligned. Very poor quality shredder.

There is no CD or credit card slot and the main slot has lots of exceptions. The warning symbols include not to insert CDs or credit cards which sucks for the money this costs. It can shred up to 20 pages at a time into an 8-gallon bin. It arrives assembled with the instructions in the waste bin. All the buttons across the top are flat to the surface of the unit, and it’s a little hard to tell if they are just indicators or actual buttons to press. For shredding, it is fast and efficient and handles paper and cardstock with ease. It is quiet and quick and is really more of a hum than a shredding/grinding like some of the other paper shredders on the market.
