If you’re trying to get started on the flute, but don’t want to invest several hundred dollars into a student model, or don’t want the risks of buying a used flute, this is an excellent way to figure out if you’ll be willing to stick with it. I ended up getting a used Yamaha 225S a few months ago, and that flute sounds MUCH better than the Glory, but it needed a handful of adjustments to be playable.

The Glory also required two minor adjustments out of the box, but such adjustments are really easy to do, and there’s plenty of content online to instruct a novice on how to perform them.

    First, the cons:
The tone is fairly thin, and the lowest notes take a lot of effort to produce.
The finish is of a poor quality, and has worn away completely on high-contact areas, such as the lip plate and on the body where the flute rests in my left hand.
The key coordination feels a little sluggish, but it’s adequate.

    And the pros:
    It’s inexpensive as hell
    it’s playable
The modern embouchure design allows for fairly easy tone production

I’ve had this flute for about 9 months now, so I feel like I can speak for its longevity a little.
I play it at least an hour a day, every day, and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.
Its been knocked off of my chair a couple times, landing on a hardwood floor, but beyond a couple dings, it wasn’t affected.

I RARELY clean this thing. It tends to stay assembled on a stand next to my desk, so I can grab it and play it whenever I want, without having to put it together.
The Yamaha, on the other hand, stays in its case unless I’m trying to record something.

I had never even picked up a flute before ordering this. Got obsessed with Jethro Tull and needed to have one. If you want to try the flute, I strongly recommend getting your hands on one of these. I’m going to keep mine forever, and use it as a guinea pig for various flute repairs as I get better and acquire more flutes. If learning how to make repairs is something you’d be interested in, there’s no reason to retire this flute indefinitely.

Sounded great, with acceptable tuning, until I had to play with others in a cold environment – the pitch went to an uncorrectable, unplayable level. Bringing it back to reasonable temperature, the pitch was again fine. This is not the case with my silver flute which can hold the pitch (with minor adjustment) at any temperature.

This flute completely exceeded my expectations!! I mean, is it professional grade? Obviously not, but what an amazing investment for a beginner to make! These are perfect for people to use while they learn and get comfortable with the flute. I have so many students that would practice more if they had more access to their instrument. I have also seen so many parent pay big dollars renting and buying high end instruments for them to decide on a different one the next year. Great sound! The joints could be a little tighter.

My mind is blown. I’ve played flute practically my whole life. I wanted a practice instrument that I could leave at my city condo so I didn’t have to keep carrying my Yamaha with me. I saw this and couldn’t believe the price. But I really don’t have hundreds to spend on another instrument that will just be used in my practice room. I thought the colors would just be cool.

When I received it and took the case out of the box, I looked at the cheap, soft-sided case and, well, I wasn’t expecting much. Well I was in for a shock. I put it together and just stared at it. The metallic blue body and brightly polished gold-colored keys were dazzling. Very cool indeed.

Now for the real test. I put it to my lips and ran two octaves of scales up and down a few times. Wow. Crystal clear, smooth tone, excellent, effortless vibrato. The pads all seal tightly with the lightest of touch. The keys all work flawlessly. I expected my finger’s muscle memory to have a problem with the return spring tension. Not so. Closing my eyes, I can’t tell the difference between this little mind-blower and $3000 Yamaha.

I played a little Irish ditty. I played a little Bach, a little jazz and a little Jethro Tull. I certainly found a good practice instrument! If you have a good ear, especially that of an experienced flutist, the difference in sound between a really fine instrument and this is very distinguishable.

Bottom line… Need a really decent, inexpensive practice instrument? Look no further. Have a child interested in learning the flute? Here you go! For incredibly minimal investment, you could start your child down a path that can provide a lifetime of enrichment. Or, did you play flute in high school or college and just want to see if you have any of that talent and skill left? Here you go! Get one and some music and go play in the basement. You’ll be surprised how wonderful it feels to have one of these lovely instruments in your hands and how genuinely fine the sound is.

If you’re too good for anything but the best, keep moving. For normal people, this is a good looking, very decent sounding flute. The keys work fine and the pads seem decent.
It would make a great first flute or second practice flute. Also great if you don’t want to take an expensive flute on tour or for marching band use.
    Surprisingly good for the price.

For the price this was a great flute. We have been through 2 because it will break/bend easily if dropped or mishandled but when our daughter wanted to try band in 6th grade we got her one of these because it’s more to rent one in two months and even buying one on marketplace and replacing the pads or servicing it was in the hundreds just for the service. She used one about 1/2 the year and it broke so we just bought another and that latest her till 7th grade. We just finally replace that one when it broke with a nicer one but that way we weren’t out early if she didn’t like it and if you are gentler with it it will last. The sound is really good and just as good as the nice one.
