Thomas Waldron –
I’m a professional drummer and drum instructor, and I bought this drum with the purpose of having a auxiliary snare for my miniature kit used by my younger students, at smaller gigs, and in studio. After mulling over all the popcorn snare options, I chose this one due to how inexpensive it was compared to the models from the larger drum companies. I didn’t expect much at this price and expected it to sound flat and funky and have no weight to it like other cheap snares I have played.
The first thing I noticed was that the drum was heavier than I expected; easily on par with any snare of the same size. The shell was reasonably thick and the drum did not feel cheap in the hands like I thought it would. In looking closer, damn near everything about the drum looked on par with if not better than the competitors models. The wood looked quality overall, the bearing edges were even with no notches or chunks or dents on the edge. Very clean and uniform cut. The hardware isn’t anything extraordinary, but easily on par with any intermediate drum kit. Nothing crooked or flimsy or obviously of low quality. The rims are fine and clean, Best of all, the throw is actually pretty great! Its outward pull design is easy, reliable, and very fast and easy, and it flows well with no resistance. Snare dial screw was a little stiff at first but WD40 took care of that. Decent heads on both sides, and the snares were even and had equal pull at each end, and were perfectly mounted. Before anything else I took a whack at it to hear it right out of the box, and I simply couldn’t believe the sound! Great body, killer projection, and a super present POP with the perfect amount of ring and controlled snare buzz. It was even tuned up nearly perfectly right out of the box. I’ve managed drum shops for 10 years and THAT was a first. Usually the heads are slack and need to be assembled from the box. The snare feels great to play and has an awesome tonal character to it that contrasts my 7×14 Tama SLP Kapur and my Ludwig 5.5×14 Classic Maple perfectly. It sounds like a professional quality snare and surprisingly holds its tune, and I haven’t even changed the stock heads yet! Another first. And the build quality is right there with any lower priced snare ( still 4x the price I paid for this if not more.) Maybe I just got lucky and got a gem over a clunker, but at this price, this drum is easily the best bang for my buck on any snare I have ever bought, and that’s a lot of snares. If you are on the fence, you wont be disappointed. Obviously its not built like a $500 snare, but it will take a beating just fine and sing with a voice high above its pay grade and then some. Sorry for the novel but I just had to share my experience so far with the cheapest snare I have ever purchased.

Love it as addition to any setup. Amazing sound pleasantly surprised. Also a space saver. Make sound however you want but good out of box. Sounds great!

Overall, itโs a great dream! For the price, it canโt be beat. But thereโs a couple concerns.
Pros:
1. The packaging and shipping time was great! Came early and was well protected, plus it came with a bottle opener, haha!
2. After playing a round with it for a while, I decided to crank the tuning all the way up on both of the stock drumheads. It sounds AWESOME!!! Kind of like a piccolo snare but with more POP!!!
3. The zebra wood wrap looks GREAT!
4. The tone is going to be very usable in my home studio for myself and other drummers in the future! especially for hip-hop or rock songs.
Cons:
1. The springs inside the lugs ring a tiny bit (very slight)
2. The build quality seems a little bit cheap in the construction. The Wood seems very cheap and soft and the PVC wrap on the outside seems pretty cheap as well.
3. The lugs are a little bit tight when turning the tension rods, but not too terrible.
Overall, I think itโs a great purchase if youโre looking for a cheap snare with a lot of character. Only time will tell how well this drum lasts, but for now, Iโll give it two thumbs up!!!

I’m using this for a side snare drum. It sounded ok out of the box but I replaced the head w/ a new Remo head and tightened up the snare and tuned it a bit which resulted in an even better sound. I’m more than happy w/ the purchase.

Looks exactly like the picture and better! Beautiful snare and sounded wonderful straight out of the box. From now on this is the snare I will be using! Perfect!

Do not buy! The drum hoop around the edges of the drum on snare side were not cut evenly causing the drum head not to sit on it properly the inside of the drum has wood glue on it were it looks like they had to do a quick repair before shipping it out to me.The heads need to be upgraded. I sent email to geek stands customer service and 2 months later they responded But for the price you get what you pay for. It will make a good drum for a kid or a beginner. I had planned on using it as a spare for certain gigs, but getting it tuned has been a problem to. If the edges were cut even then I could get it tuned to what I need because itโs pulling the head way to far on one side
