I’ve used this several times now and it works great! The key is to freeze the bowl ahead of time for 24 hours, mix your ingredients and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour ahead of time, and begin the process as soon the bowl comes out of the freezer. We have made chocolate, but we typically stick with the basic vanilla recipe and add nuts or cookies to it- 20 minutes into the churning process. Also helps to use high quality vanilla – so good! The ice cream will not be hard – it’s definitely soft serve. The only slight drawback – it’s kind of noisy.

Have made ice cream with this twice since getting it. Worked well and easy to clean up. The noise level is a little loud but the end product well worth it. we are happy with this item

The only good thing about it is that it makes ice cream. It is extremely noisy. I put it in the bathroom and close the door when it is running. Can still hear it. It is too big.

Works really well, and I like that you can walk away and come back to a yummy frozen treat. Just keep it in the freezer for when you need it.

Another UPDATE: I have tried it again tonight and think that my chest freezer just makes the tub too cold. I took it out and let it sit for 10 minutes before turning it on and adding the mixture. It bogged down a little but is churning very nicely now. I think my freezer just makes the tub too cold.
UPDATE: I used it again last night after spraying the inside of the freezer bowl with Pam. I also let the freezer bowl sit out for about 15 minutes before I used it. I don’t know which change made the difference but IT WORKED and made lovely sugar free cherry chocolate chip ice cream. I’m going to play with it a bit more before I return it. I might keep it!

This thing is so frustrating. Each time I have tried to make ice cream or sorbet, the mixture freezes against the sides of the tub, freezes the paddle with it and stops the progress of the machine. Numerous other people have written reviews stating the same problem so YOU NEED TO BELIEVE THAT THIS DOESN’T WORK LIKE IT SHOULD! I had to practically chisel the paddle from the sides and an hour later, the mix is still frozen solid to the sides and bottom of the tub (see photo). Yes, my bowl was in the deep freeze for 20+ hours. Yes, my mixture was kept in the fridge for 6+ hours, even though all of the ingredients were fridge temp to start with. It’s just not worth the frustration. All I wanted was a way to make soft serve ice cream but what I got was aggravation! I have requested a return from Amazon and will buy something else. Arghhh!

The media could not be loaded.

I made the mistake of not reading the directions first; Don’t be me!

Make sure you assemble and turn on before you add the batter. We have a subzero freezer and the batter instantly froze to the bowl. Then I couldn’t seat the paddle and it wouldn’t churn correctly. Crisis averted after much scraping with a bamboo spatula. Hoping I didn’t destroy the bowl!

Make sure you don’t add more than 4 cups (32 ounces) by volume including add-ins. I made a huge mess.

The machine is loud but I’m sure it’s loud at the factory and ice shops too.

I love that I can use whatever ingredients I want and not have to worry about added crap.

I’m on a mission to use organic ingredients, no sugar and no artificial sweeteners.

    My lower carb recipe:
    8 egg Yolk
    2 cups heavy whipping cream
    1 cup whole milk
    45g local raw honey
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    5g 80p vodka

This round I added 1/4 unsweetened cocoa powder and 28g salted dark chocolate

After extensive research I’ve found that sugar is a sweetener and it keeps the ice cream from freezing solid. I’ve learned .05% by volume of alcohol keeps the ice cream from freezing solid.

I also added 5% by volume local raw honey so not safe for diabetics but half the carbs as store bought ice cream.

Next round I’m going to forego the honey and use berries as my sweetener, so even less carbs.

It did it’s job and I’m looking forward to the next round knowing more of what to expect!

No tengo ninguna queja respecto al producto, funciona como debería funcionar. El helado que he hecho es bastante bueno y la máquina es eficiente.

Si tuviera que decir algo negativo es el ruido que hace el motor cuando está encendido.

I have never owned an ice cream maker before but have wanted one for a long time. Apparently, all it takes to make ice cream is a cold chamber and a way to churn the ingredients. This appliance will make ice cream, sorbet and frozen custard. (A lot of the ice cream recipes I’ve been finding have eggs in them which really makes them a frozen custard.)

I made the “peaches and cream” ice cream recipe that came with the ice cream maker last night. First, the appliance itself is very simple. There are 4 pieces: the base, a cylinder shaped bowl, a “paddle”, and a cover. To make ice cream, you have to freeze the bowl for a minimum of 8 hours. It is fairly large so you have to have some room in your freezer if you are going to buy this. We have a drawer type freezer and would not have had room if we had not just recently cleaned out the freezer. After the bowl is frozen, you sit it on the base, drop the paddle into the bowl, and attach the cover. The cover clicks into the base and holds the paddle in position. Then, you turn the devise on. The bowl spins but the paddle stays in position. Then you pour the ingredients into the bowl through the hole in the cover.

My three comments about this device are as follows: First, this is by far the loudest appliance I have in my house. I had read reviews mentioning how loud this device and other ice cream makers are but nothing could have prepared me for how loud this device is. My house isn’t huge but I could hear this appliance upstairs while it was running in the kitchen. I was afraid it would keep my husband and son up. You would not be able to run this appliance while hosting a dinner party. Second, I made a huge mess trying to pour the mixed ingredients into the bowl. I don’t know if it was because there were chunks of peaches which were causing the liquid not to pour correctly, or if pouring cream in general is messy. It was extremely messy. Last, I wasn’t expecting this but home made ice cream is very soft – almost the consistency of a thick milkshake. You can put the ice cream in the freezer to harden it but then it becomes very hard and almost crystalizes.

I will make some additional recipes and update my post if I am more satisfied with the results. In general, it was fun and I can see how it will help me eat healthier desserts, but I definitely wasn’t expecting the appliance to be so loud and I didn’t realize the ice cream would be so soft.
