We got one of these to record our bassist amp output in our low-cost recording basement operation. Great sound quality for the price. Was a noticeable improvement over a less capable mic (i.e. not designed for low frequencies). It’s not gonna beat a high-end choice for a pro studio but if you need something that will mostly get the job done at a low cost, this a solid choice.

Super surprised by this microphone. Bought it and used this past weekend on a gig as a kick drum mic. With a flat EQ this thing sounded great and had a nice punch to it. Totally worth the money.

I grabbed one of these when I was making a demo for a friend’s band and was pleasantly surprised. Now I’ve used it on a bunch of recordings and am really seeing no reason to upgrade. I’m pretty careful with my stuff and haven’t dropped this or spilled anything on it, and it lives in a padded mic case when not in use, so I can’t really speak to its long term durability. But for the price it sounds surprisingly killer.

This is worth a buy for recording or live use but you’re gonna need to be good at what you do to make the best use out of it. It won’t reproduce very low. If you check the specs, you’ll realise that it cuts off a little higher than a typical kick drum mic. Instead of a bass/kick mic, it’s more of a low mids mic but that’s fine and that still doesn’t disqualify it as a great kick/bass mic. With the right amount of gain or some very gentle wide band EQ, this can be the perfect pairing on kick drum or a bass cab or a miriad of other uses in the studio or live. I’ve used it in both settings and it’s great. It’s also surprisingly a great vocal mic.

Great Price. I have Three of these. They sound Great for Kick and Large Floor Toms. Better than a SM57 for 1/3rd the price. not the most durable so i wouldn’t use on Gigs. But great for Home Studio. Amazing value.

I guessed correctly that this mic is the Pyle PDKM7-A in a fatter housing as the photo shows and sound testing confirms. The Heimu mount also features brass threads, vastly more durable than the Pyle threads. So if you want just the kick mic out of the Pyle kit, here it is.
Much has been made of the reported 50Hz pickup limit. Well this isnโt so hard a limit in the first place and a good question is whether you want DC in your track in the first place. I think this has plenty of low end in practice and if you want to open up the top a bit you can pull the foam out of the basket (it is just floating in there). It has a strong supercardioid pattern with good proximity effect. I think itโs fine for recording although you can pay more and do a little better if you want. These single coil dynamics are susceptible to picking up some hum be aware, but that is also true of SM57 and RE20 and lots of classics. You may have to aim them correctly or dehum in post. This mic isnโt that big but it is a little fatty. The tiny Pyle version is like a stubby SM58 size.
Anyway a totally viable kick or bass cab mic for cheap. Output is good and you can EQ in post to your hearts content. The mount is plastic but sturdy looking. Anyone capable can work with this fine, question is should you pay more.

Using it as a bass drum mic and is sounding good.
