I ordered a new drive and I got an actual new drive. Might order another while I still can.

This is the brand that all businesses, data centers, and servers use. For durability, reliability, and long life, the HGST Ultrastar is “second to none.”
.
BACKBLAZE, a HD testing lab, verified the above qualities. Hundreds to thousands did “pushups” for a year, running 24/7. the Ultrastar had the least breakdowns and failures.
.
Of course, the brand to avoid was Seagate. On this matter, I attested from experience. It’s products malfunctioned after a month – past the standard return policy for most computer equipment purchases.

I had originally ordered a Seagate ST2000NM0055, but it was a DOA. It buzzed when head was idle and when I ran Seatools I had a good old fashioned head crash with metal on metal screeching and a BSOD system crash. That went back to the vendor and I was thinking of trying another unit of the same model till I did some searching on the net and found similar stories. (This was pretty disappointing because I have been using Seagate drives for literally decades and have 10 in operation right now problem free.) One article referenced some study done which indicated that the HGST server drives had a lower fail rate than other brands. I decided to try this HGST server drive and so far I have been very pleased with its performance. It is quiet, just an occasional clunk as the head shifts about. It is faster than my Seagate drives, though they are a few years older so that would be expected. No buzzing, no head crashes. I still have some Windows XP systems setup and so I had to purchase Paragon’s GPT Loader to be able to access this drive’s 4GB. I actually used the Paragon GPT Loader to partition and format the drive. After assigning it a drive letter, access was seamless and transparent. Note: If you are thinking of buying Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager Professional software it comes with the GPT Loader included, so no need to buy it separately. Overall I am very pleased and would buy this drive again if needed.

This was my second drive, the first one was DOA. The replacement I got shows a manufacture date of AUG 2016, already out of warranty, and SMARTUTILS shows it has 29623 hours on it! I am going to send it back.

I only got three months from this drive. This drive is running on my business computer and now I can’t boot my computer. I”m waiting to see if the company will replace this drive.

I ordered four of these HUS726040ALE610 drives to replace older, smaller drives in my Synology DS1511+ and DS1513+ servers. All the new drives were in manufacturer’s anti-static bag, showed zero hours, and had no DOA’s. I’ve been very pleased with the HGST Ultrastar drives — the ones I was replacing had up to 50,000 hours on them.

Excellent drive, excellent service from vendor.

Installation facile.
