She definately thunders throughout the shop! lol First day i used it, all the boys in the garage came running to see what the he#*! I am usually a Snap ON or Mac guy, but this gun is the best i have ever used. I am an HD mechanic and believe me when I say I use my tools, and this is a good tool. It’s hard to explain, but you can tell the difference just by holding this gun in your hands, and feel the difference when you use it.

Instantly reminds me of the classic Mac tools 1/2″ impact gun that was the industry standard for so many years. It’s no lightweight, but has the power necessary for those difficult jobs that the off-brand units just can’t deliver. Only initial complaint is the yellow head guard doesn’t fit that great and of course being a soft cloth material (vs. vinyl) will not clean up as easily as most standard head guards.

If you’re looking for a well built unit that pushes out the type of torque it’s actually rated for and don’t want to spring for high end name brand unit, look no farther, this is by far the best option around in the 1/2″ impact gun arena.

If you want a fast, loud, sturdy, hard hitting impact gun; Get this gun! I really do mean that’s its loud. Just be careful because it literally shredded my nitrile glove in the blink of an eye. It literally blew half of my glove off in 1/8 of a second… I work at a Dealership and this gun doesn’t sweat anything including the bigger vehicles. I have it turned up to 5 and it does the job!!! Be careful after oiling because the exhaust comes out the front of the gun and will blow oil all over a customer’s wheels. I suggest running it for like 6 seconds to blow out the excess oil. It’ll spray oil particles 10ft out. It really is a powerful and quick impact gun. It’s definitely heavy but I’m getting used to it and I use my other hand on the grippy part to stabilize it because it’s very front heavy! I’m very happy with this gun being a month in and say that it’s definitely what you would expect from an ingersoll rand product and then some! It’s strengths far outweigh it’s weaknesses!!!

Still loud, still fast, and still hits hard! The only lug nut it wasn’t able to take off was a security lug nut that was wayyy over tightened. It snapped the key right off into the lug nut. That’s no fault of the gun though… I use this impact gun EVERYDAY doing about 4 tire rotations a day not including when I use it for suspension work or just taking the wheels off to work on a Car. This gun hasn’t let me down once and my coworkers hate that they can’t stand by my bay and gossip in the shop because ya know “thunder gun” 🤣

Love the sound and the look, but it does have some weight to it. Like my dcf900 1/2 dewalt electric impact compares in weight to it.

Love this gun. A touch heavy entirely because of its strength. Highly recommend

I’ve abused mine like an alcoholic father daily and it’s still performing excellently. Ran over with an f250 and only a scratch, thrown it a few times and only a couple more scratches it’s crazy. It’s super fast with reasonable strength and it’s obnoxiously loud if that’s your thing. Can’t beat the value of this gun

This being my first impact gun I decided to go with Ingersoll Rand and the debate was between the thunder gun and the TiMax. Being a weekend mechanic I decided the TiMax was more for a professional working 8 hour days with the gun.

The Thunder gun is close enough to the TiMax in torque power for my needs. It is much heavier but again I’m not holding the gun for any extended amount of time so the weight is a non-issue. It has enough torque to zip a lug nut that is torqued to 110 ft lbs off in less than a second. The lug nut is spinning freely before I realize the trigger has been fully pulled. Putting lug nuts back on using the forward torque setting is a breeze. I was able to dial in the forward torque to put them back on at around 80 ft lbs then use my torque wrench to get them at 110. It has been convenient to be able to go from full power in reverse to half power forward with just a switch of the button. If you need full power in forward it is easy to turn the dial also. I have a 6.5 HP 35 gallon compressor and can remove / install all 4 wheels without the compressor having to kick on to recover. It does kick the compressor on when trying to break a Really stuck bolt. Holding the trigger for several seconds at a time really sucks the air down, at 10cfm @ 90 psi my compressor so far has kept up just fine.

The protective yellow boot is a nice touch and has kept the gun from sliding on my garage floor and getting scratched up when I drag it around. However the nice yellow boot just seems to absorb grease and grim and mine is now mostly black. I tried cleaning it after each use hoping to keep it nice looking but it just didn’t happen. It’s not a big deal for me but worth mentioning to people hoping to keep a nice bright yellow boot, it will be a hassle.

That Nascar sound is awesome and makes me smile and just pull the trigger to hear it still all the time. It may not be exactly the Nascar sound but I’m not enough of a Nascar fan to be that picky, it sounds awesome. Anyone who hears it comments on how awesome it sounds. That’s not much of a reason to buy a tool but anything to make you smile and enjoy working on your cars is a plus.

I had a small air leak as others mentioned which was a disappointment for sure to have an air leak right out of the box. I added a quick release fitting and thought it was the fitting I had added at first. I was able to quickly confirm it was the factory air fitting when I saw air/oil bubbles seeping from the threads. Removing the factory fitting and adding teflon tape only took a second but should not be needed with a flagship tool of such a respected name brand.

Overall great impact gun with a few minor flaws which I feel don’t justify the loss of a star, you won’t be disappointed provided your compressor can keep up.

The gun is extremely powerful and has an insane amount of RPM’s. You can zip off lug nuts and put them back in 5 seconds easily. Possibly less if you’re a NASCAR pit worker. I do work as a full time technician at a delership and this gun has yet to meet anything that it couldn’t take off. With that being said, I do have some gripes about it.
The first con is the weight of the gun. It’s very heavy compared to my snap on gun. It’s also not ergonomically comfortable. My “lower thumb knuckle” (whatever that part of the bone is called lol) constantly is smashed up against the gun and it becomes extremely uncomfortable at times.
My second gripe is how loud it is. This gun will rattle the whole shop. I don’t mind it, but some of the other guys I work with hate it lol
All in all, it is a great gun and I would recommend it if you want to feel like you’re part of a NASCAR pit crew.
