Got this for my 4yr old nephew and wasn’t sure what it would be like. Read it before I gave it as his present and even I thought it was great for a child reading at bed time 😂. Love the illustrations too!

This is one beautifully illustrated book with lots of humour adding to the beauty of bedtime routine. Feels good to go to bed with a smile on the face.
Vicky –
Great Story for children who are acquainted with some traditional fairy tales. And even if they’re not, like my 4 yr. old grandson, he still loves the drama!
Little chicken can’t stand it when Hansel and Gretel are going to be taken in by the witch, so when his father gets to that place in the bedtime story, little chicken interrupts and warns the listener that “SHE’S A WITCH!”. Father chicken tells him not to interrupt the story, but little chicken can’t help it and does the spoiler again with “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Chicken Little”. It can be so funny when the kids anticipate what’s coming. The illustrations are wonderful, and my 3 1/2 yr. old grandson who can’t read can see the very large print when little chicken yells out and warns the reader that “She’s a witch!”
I think this picture book is best for kids who are a little older, maybe 6-8. And they can read it themselves and put all the drama into it. My younger grandchildren aren’t exposed to the scarey fairy tales like Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood, so they miss the point, but they still enjoy the drama of the story and the illustrations, and they think it’s funny when little chicken “helps” his dad tell the bedtime stories.

Para el aula de inglés. Está pensado como libro para ir a dormir, pero se puede leer en clase y recordar algunos cuentos clásicos. Es divertido. Buen tamaño. Muy colorido.
Victoria –
Great read aloud with a funny but important message.

This is a great children’s book. It is funny and engaging for students, while also teaching them about interrupting others.

I’m a substitute teacher – I always bring a book with me when I sub for elementary classes as a way to pass time, if needed. I’m pretty particular about which kid’s books I buy and use, however, as I like books that are unique, clever, funny, and/or have a theme that can be turned into a lesson/writing activity. The classics are great, of course, but I want a book that is out of the ordinary.
The concept of this story is clever. The wording and facial expressions of the chickens are hilarious! Another reviewer mentioned that the facial expressions needed more attention, but I felt they were adequate enough to convey what they were supposed to. I chuckle every time I see Chicken’s dopey face as he tells Papa AGAIN that he’ll be good. And it’s clear to see Papa’s frustration every time Chicken interrupts.
The moral of this story may not be as clear to the reader as one would think. If you’re hoping to use this book to teach or show why it’s rude to interrupt, you might want a different book altogether. The ending doesn’t offer a solution to Chicken’s constant interrupting. In fact, I personally didn’t feel that Chicken even had a problem with interrupting – instead, I felt that he was caring (“Oh, Papa. I couldn’t let that little chicken get all upset over an acorn!”), jumping into the story right when something bad was going to happen and saving the day. Chicken was also imaginative, adding his own twist to classic stories and creating his own original story to read to Papa. Use this book as an example of compassion or creativity instead! If you just want a book that’s adorably funny, however, then this one is perfect for that, too!
For those reviewers who said this book was lame and boring – I think not! Some people need to lighten up a bit…kids and adults alike will enjoy this story and it is certainly a great addition to any bookshelf!

I bought this for my kiddos Easter basket, it’s funny. All my kids find it funny and often pick this book to read out loud.

This book is a popular book for my 4 and 5 year old class! It’s silly and fun. It’s references other stories that they know! They now love to read certain quotes with me! If you’re looking for a silly book with no meaning please give this book a try.
