I received my Kremona NG-1 and was pleased to find that installing it was as simple as explained on the Kremona youtube installation video that can be found on their USA website. The element alone (not including the cable jack housing) is 750 mm long and 8 mm wide(about 5/16″). Including the jack housing, the NG-1 is 930 mm in length. I installed it on a strung Custom Martin N-20 Classical with a 2.125″ nut, 25.4″ scale length. I was a little worried that the element would be a tiny bit to wide for the bridge tie bar so I emailed Kremona for the measurements stated above. It was close, but I purchased it none the less. I was happy to see that it fit within the tie bars width with about 1/2 mm to spare. I’m not sure how easy it is to install while restringing a guitar, but will find out soon enough as I replace strings frequently. Just be careful and make sure the strings are properly tied to the tie bar with the final locking twist beyond the back edge of the tie bar. I usually leave a lot of string length to wind around the tuning machines so I had leeway to correct any problems at the tie bar if needed without having to replace the strings. My Martin has the most amazing tone I’ve ever heard on any guitar, and this pickup did not effect that tone at all after installation. Believe me, I’d hear it and would not be writing this review. The quality of the sound produced by this pickup is excellent, and on par or even better than my newer Martin OOOC with Fishman F1 electronics. I’m really pleased. If you have a higher end classical guitar, and don’t ever intend to install electronics and a end pin, this is the way to go. I run the signal through my microphones Art Tube preamp into an Acoustic amp. Sounds great even at high volume. You can use the pickup without a preamp, but will need to turn up your acoustic amp much higher so I recommend using a preamp. If you rattle, bang and move the cable around a lot you will hear it, as there is a direct mechanical vibration link through the cable to the element. Kinda like tapping a microphone. Most classical players sit still and this shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re bounding around the stage rockin’ it, you might have a problem. The only improvement Kremona could do is make the 8′ cable longer. I will replace that with a 15 or 20 foot cable. Reasonably priced, fairly easy to install, looks good on the guitar and works well. I love it.

O timbre fica muito melhor que o prรฉ amp que estava instalado

I take one star because the soft box packaging was not ideal for such a fragile item, that said, the item arrived perfectly even if the box was a little smashed due to international shipping.
Installation was simple and the sound is really good, I can recommend this for anyone with a nylon string guitar who needs amplification.
Well done KNA.

Really easy to install. Most importantly, it sounds greatโฆ even more so considering the price. I put it through my Boss GE-7 cutting the low mids and boosting the highs slightly for a clear sound. Really recommend this one.

So there I was, about to spring for a $700+ guitar with built-in pickups and pre-amp to do the live performance and recording projects I had coming up. I didn’t really want to do that – I love my classical, and I’d purchased a high-quality [Name Withheld] clip-on mic/pre-amp setup that I hoped would let me use it to record & play live, but I found several problems with that solution. First, if I was recording an instrumental track and happened to hum softly to myself to keep my place in the song, the mic would pick it up – showstopper! Secondly, it was a nuisance messing with the wiring, clipping the mic on each time and having it slide around and hit the strings, figuring out where to hang the barnacle/pre-amp on my clothing someplace. And with all that complication it was hard to move around and prone to accidents. Thirdly, even with the pre-amp turned up all the way, the input signal to the amp seemed to be much lower than I would have expected, even with a brand new battery. Fourth, it was prone to feed back. So…$200 down and still no solution.
As one last chance, I decided to try the KNA NG-1 pickup, and I also ordered a high-quality low-noise guitar pre-amp, assuming (incorrectly, it turns out) that a piezo pickup would need a LOT of help in terms of signal strength.
When I received the NG-1, the first thing I noticed was how beautiful, simple and elegant the design is. I installed it easily and ran it through the pre-amp to the Bose PA. It sounded amazing. None of that rubber-band sounding stuff like you hear in so many recordings of nylon-string guitars. Clean and crisp and clear on the high end, and that beautiful, deep, resonant tone of the classical on the low end. The second thing I noticed is when I set the gain on the pre-amp as suggested by the vendor, it was way down in the active-pickup range, not anywhere near the typical passive/ribbon pickup high-boost range. Then as a test I ran the pickup straight into the PA, bypassing the pre-amp and it was producing a higher signal level than my expensive mic/pre-amp combo! The sound was still amazingly clear, but of course there are more parameters to tweak on the pre-amp and also it’s a DI/XLR balanced output which will always sound better. Then on top of everything else, it’s nearly invisible on the guitar, and the cord can be quickly and easily plugged and unplugged for playing and storing, and doesn’t interfere with normal movement..
As a specific solution to “electrifying” the classical guitar in a clean, simple and effective manner, this product has no peers.

I play a cheap Yamaha 3/4 classical guitar (pictured above, the shoestring are my makeshift guitar strap holder, lol…). I am a songwriter who likes to shift between quiet and loud (think Wilco, the Shins, Vampire Weekend). I hate the sound of most removable pickups, as they are usually muddy and chime-y, and indistinct. Well, not this puppy!
Though it takes a hot minute (30ish) to install, it is totally worth it! I played at the big venue here in town for 3 hours, and I was so happy with the AG-1! I would highly recommend it. While I did feel like I had to be careful so as not to break it, the clip that is provided and just making sure I wasn’t super rough with it was enough. I honestly didn’t feel shy playing it, I’m pretty animated and strum hard sometimes. It sounds great fingerstyle or strumming. Such a clear, dynamic tone for the price. And no guitar surgery required. Love it and highly recommend!
