I am happy with this printer EXCEPT for one crucial factor. It goes through ink like no one’s business. It seems to just sit there idly for weeks and consume ink. PLUS, and more importantly, I HATE the fact that the printer decides when it is time to replace the cartridges and NOT you! This means, that the printer refuses, point blank, to print anything until you replace the cartridges. I understand that Kodak wants you to have the best printed quality, but a lot of the time, I want to print something at a very, very low quality because the print is just for my own use and does not have to be great. I almost always print in “Draft” mode, and almost ALWAYS print in black-and-white. It kills me that I have to replace the color cartridge when I have barely used any color ON PURPOSE. I understand that black is actually shades of gray, but come on, does it REALLY have to use the color cartridge to print black ??!??!?!?!?!?

Going forward, I am going to keep a tally of how many prints I make and in which mode. I doubt that I will get more than 40-50 DRAFT prints per cartridge, and that is with the printer turned off at ALL times when I am not using it.

And one more thing, the Kodak support page says to print often so that the printer does not have to clean its heads, which wastes ink. Really? You need to use ink to clean the printer heads?????????? Maybe this is the case for this printer, but with today’s technology, I am sure there is a way around that nonsensical logic.

I will never buy Kodak again, and I recommend that, unless you like buying lots of ink, you do not buy this printer. The worse part of it all, is that I want to print on a low cartridge until it fades away to nothing. I HATE having that right taken away from me and I HATE being told to buy new ink when Kodak thinks I should. How empty is that cartridge, really? I doubt it is really empty.

Update to my review based on my research. I have kept a tally of how many prints I get out of a color cartridge. Bear in mind, that I rarely print in color, but this is how this works with this printer. I installed a new color cartridge on 7/29/12. Today is 4/13/13. I have printed 75 b&w draft prints, 4 b&w normal prints, and 12 color prints. When not printing, I always turn the printer off, which saves the ink cartridge drying as fast. A new color cartridge cost me around $36. So, I am paying around 4 cents per print. Keep in mind that I have not yet had to change the b&w cartridge in over a year. What a total scam! DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER.

After my last Kodak died at the old age of 3 but with many, many miles on it, my daughter could not wait until I could go out and purchase another Kodak. So, she purchased a Canon from a big box store. It was difficult to set up and it lasted 2 days. Then she came home with on off brand and it never did load correctly. The print quality was terrible and her daughter cut the print wheel cord after 10 days! So, by that time, I had the money to buy another Kodak. Set-up was simple but it required an almost immediate upgrade and this messed it up for about a week until I could figure out how to reload the upgrade. After that, I am immensely please with color, tone, quality, dependability. Buttons easy to use. Down side > paper feed is poor and not dependable; must watch what is being printed to avoid paper jam. But, for the cost per page, ease of use, overall dependabily, I’m happy. Of course, I loved getting it through Amazon with free shipping and best possible price and I saved precious gas money and time PLUS was able to comparson shop customer reviews; can’t do that in a store.

5yr old HP all in one dies for no apparent reason. Hours and hours spent on internet trying to figure out what to replace the HP with-don’t want or need a bunch of bells and whistles, just a machine that infrequently will be used to copy, scan, and print. Tired of paying outlandish prices for ink cartridge replacements, had poor luck having cartridges refilled. Finally came to believe Kodak has the products which have the lowest total ink replacement cost in the industry (as their packing boxes always tell us).

This machine does all I need and more, having a 3-D photo print capability I had never heard of. Went to trusty Amazon.com and found this unit was on a discounted deal which proved to be good timing and a great purchase. Price was right, came earlier than expected, easy set up, works great.

UPDATE 27Apr2012; This machine drinks ink like crazy. Although the print capability is ok the ink usage makes it not worth having.

I formerly owned HP Office Jets, and many models of Epson printers. I thought I’d give Kodak a try because of the price of ink and the fact that the HP ink depletes too fast and the Epson ink clogged up when not in use.

So far I have had the printer for about a month. The speed is pretty good, I like that it goes into and out of sleep mode without bothering me. Printing envelope addresses has never been so easy because it senses the paper feed automatically.

I printed out a couple high res. color prints and they look better the the ones printed at the drug store.

Scanning and copying worked as easy as my office copier. Just like advertised. The price, of course was great, I think it was about $70 including shipping. You have to remember when considering printer price that HP, Kodak, and Epson are ink companies that happen to sell printers so I bought to Kodak model because I could pay $20/cartridge instead of $40.

In fact, I liked the printer so well that I bought the next model up an ESP6100 for our office to replace our officejet.

If I have any complaint, its that the installation CD had an out of date driver and I had to endure a long download for the software to update, but really, that’s minor. The only problem I have is that our receptionist doesn’t look at her phone and interrupts incoming faxes.
