Kolpin Rear Trail Box – 93201, Black

I purchase the Kolpin 93201 Rear Trail Box with the intension of using it as a front storage box for my chainsaw. As seen in the picture it fits well as a front mounted trunk. Yes the trunk will block the High Beam light function on my quad, however for what I use it for this won’t be an issue. I added a plywood floor so that I could easily attach the chainsaw and associated fuel/oils.

The trunk is very well made with excellent dust seal and great working latches. The supplied mounting hardware packages are excellent, with the only challenge (like all quad boxes) is drilling the holes to attached the box to your quad. The design of the box does not impede my steering or view and it does provide some wind and brush shelter. Sometimes it worth while to “think out of the box” excellent product.

I really do like this trunk. I like that with the mounting hardware it’s very easy to put on and take off also it’s water tight i would recommend this product

The box is sturdy and material is good quality. Super easy to install and holds 2 helmets and other gear so plenty of storage. Overall good quality and I’m really happy with the purchase.

Box is sturdy plastic, and although not “custom made” for any specific ATV, it is adaptable for most. It was easy to mount and has held up on all of our cross country, trail, and street rides. The latches on mine have stayed shut with no problems…….but I have the latches facing rearward. NEVER ride with the opening side into the wind!

This box is relatively inexpensive and made from plastic–it is not a steel safe, and not meant to keep valuables in while unattended. There are a multitude of ways to defeat plastic and break in. I put my quad cover, helmets, oil, spare belt, some rags and paper towel, and a few tools in mine. Sometime I carry a lunch, snack and something to drink when on a long trip. Works great for this stuff.

My complaint–not a completely dust PROOF seal (90% of out riding is excessively dusty), and small amount of water appears in the bottom (either leaks around the cover or condensation), AND THUS -1 STAR.

I’ve corrected these faults by installing a thicker foam seal (homemade and simple to do) between the box and lid, and drilled TWO 1/16″ holes in the low parts of the base………………..water and dust problems have disappeared.

My point in review regards the Kolpin 93201 Rear Trail Box:

I’d chosen the-(Kolpin 93201 Rear Trail Box)-under the conditions it was meant to be a secure and solid box. My opinion is the rubber locks are not that secure. The key lock is also weak due to the metal plate attached to the key lock being very flimsy; You can actually bend the metal plate with your index finger it’s that weak.

Kolpin also say the box fits to large sized adult helmets but when attempting to put a medium adult sized Shoei helmet in, it only just about fits in with of course a slight pulling from the outside of the box for the helmet to surpass the outside edges.

Overall it is a nice sized box but in all honesty Koplin need to go back to the drawing board and use stronger materials rather than very cheap budget materials.

Luckily enough for myself I am handy at being able to rectify the key lock issue and to secure the trail box further I plan to rivet on a nice tidy hasp and staple for added security and replace the key lock plate with a much stronger/thicker plate than the one Kolpin uses.

The other point that attracted me to the Kolpins trail box you’re able to purchase a top rack to fit on top of the lid-good idea but again kolpin do need sort the problems regards all the locks on the box. At the time writing the review I haven’t yet purchased the top rack to fit on the top lid.

I do feel too the colour of the box it being supposedly black could be more a deeper black it looks more like an off grey colour. The-U- bolts to fit the box to the Quad rear rack I’d have thought Kolpin would supply us four-U-bolts but they only provide us with two which meant I had to buy two more at further cost because clearly to place the trail box in situ with two-U-bolts for the size of the box it’s not enough neither will it be secure enough.

With regards value for money: I’d have to say I do feel at a loss due to having to spend more money on Kolpins trial box plus time wasted to correct there errors so no I believe we are not getting value for our hard earned pennies.

Kolpin do have the ideas but don’t put it into practice very well when it comes to cost they apparently review budget first then come with it a bad naming & poor comments from there customers this defiantly seemly appears to be of their interests for now. Hopefully we will see better in the near future from Kolpin.
