Hands down the best in the volca series. A real FM synth. If you are into 80s music this is a must have. It is a DX7 that fits in your pocket.

Being able to load DX7 patches is a huge deal. This little synth may be small but it packs huge features. 6 operator engine with a menu system that is easy to understand and use even though it is based in a single line LED display.

You can edit , load and save up to 32 presets at a time. You can transfer patches from freeware like Dexed.

The sequencer and arp are simple and fun to use. The keyboard is actually easy to use. You can connect an external midi keyboard. You can sync it with other volca devices.

Build quality is actually very good for a plastic box. Batteries add weight and make it feel solid. Battery life is good. There is a built in speaker however it really does not give you a real feel for this synth.

Hook this up to a pair of headphones or an amp and it comes alive. The built in chorus adds depth. If you add a reverb to the mix this thing becomes a religious experience.

    You will not be disappointed.

Great little starter drum machine. But the problem Iโ€™ve had with TWO different units, when i plug it into an audio interface, the unit died on two separate korg volca drums. have had to replace both. I did successfully make two songs using it, but overall it seems to be very limited with โ€œuseable soundsโ€ unless your a mad scientist and like alien type sounds in your music. Iโ€™m not one of those people. lol. Kicks hit hard and claps sound great which is the most of what I used it for. I will be getting an Electron Model Cycles instead for my drum machine needs due to both the units dying on me. Seems the circuitry is very weak internally, and just unplugging the audio out could kill the unit. I love my Korg microkorg though. lol

The Volca arrived to Peru very fast and in perfect condition. In general, this one of the best musical electronic instruments I ever had! Compact, multiple features, amazing sounds and patterns, tutorials available. I can’t believe it is actually making all those kicks that I’ve always heard my favorite artists play. Thank you, Korg Volca team, for developing this amazing instrument and making it accessible. My boyfriend and I love it!

Thing is pretty ridiculous. You got 6 tracks, each with 2 different layers/voices. You can have up to 16 hits in a single step (per track), you have probability, parameter step locking (can play melodies and even chords by tuning sounds specific to their step), random track/sound generation and a great sequencer packed with features for live play. The only ‘drawback’ is only 16 steps but with probability, split steps, and the live playing features it doesnt matter. Dont listen to negative reviews. This thing can do a lot and is probably the best volca overall. I have made several of my own kits from scratch and i can get great thumping kicks and super snappy snares and high hats. And AMAZING fx sounds. I’m beyond impressed. This thing for $109 is a steal. Not the best ‘beginner’ volca but it is friendly enough to invite you in with the preset patches to have fun with the sequencer until you decide to dive into sound design. Then you can start doing wacky generative and ambient stuff if you want too. All on this little synth.

I use this with a small external keyboard and a retrokits cable. The results are awesome and portable. I don’t bother with the macro knobs. I’ve drilled a hole in the back and brought the midi out “out”. I can send full patch banks to my TX7. Individual patch sending doesn’t work, at least for me. The midi in port is a little wobbly, I’ll update my review if needed. The three voices only are sort of a bummer, but to properly emulate the DX7 you need > 60k sampling rate to minimize aliasing, and this thing runs off batteries all day long. Keep it in bed with you and just wake up in the morning with a pair of headphones and you’re ready to go back to a land of neon spandex and full-frame animation. A wholly superior decade. I know because I was there.

Yes, the velocity implementation and lack of portamento are also bummers, but I can’t really fault this thing. The five stars are because I use this every day and the korg engineers did a great job sound-wise and proper fm synthesis (or at least the phase modulation synthesis of dx7) has a way of putting me into a trance-like state.

non-pro tip #1: When importing patches over midi from pc, make sure you turn all six volca voices ON after importing the patch. Many times, voices crucial to the patch are not turned on.

non-pro tip #2: Make, or better yet, import a default sine wave patch from a patch bank that you can edit and experiment with. The default parameter values are not always what you think they are – sometimes they are in the middle of the range.

Me fascinan estas mรกquinas; he adquirido tres de ellas: Volca Beats, Volca Bass & Volca Drum.
