I’m always amazed at how well the Germans can design & build things.
The Lamy 2000 is no exception. This is a sober looking pen, nothing flashy here! But it’s a superbly designed pen, it’s Macralon shell looks & is virtually bulletproof. Filling the pen is simple & intuitive. As for writing, I honestly put off buying this pen because I continually read how small the sweet spot is, and that the Lamy 2000 is scratchy. Well, now that I have one, I’ve found that this is simply not the case, The fine nib starts right away after filling, writes easily and smoothly. Sure if you tilt the pen to an awkward angle, of course you’ll have issues, but almost every fountain pen will have issues if one writes at an incorrect pitch or angle. The fine nib does write more like a medium, but there seems to be no bleed through except on very cheap paper. I’m a pen collector, but in all honesty if I was picking a single pen to use in school or office for every day, This pen would be in my top 3 contenders.
Points to Ponder – Bullet proof exterior, and fingerprints don’t easily show on it’s surface – It can only be filled with bottled ink, and the ink reservoir is quite large – 14k solid gold platinum plated nib writes extraordinarily smooth – German engineered & built, will probably last forever. – Ink window is a nice touch, but it is a bit hard to see especially with black ink
Now the only negative thing I had with my transaction was that I never received the leather pen holder, but this pen is so amazing that it’s not even a deal breaker.

I use fountain pens for most of my writing. If I could have only one fountain pen, this would be it. The design is fabulous. It’s comfortable, easy to use, writes very well, holds a lot of ink, and is a good value. I own more expensive pens, but none are better.
The looks are understated, so if you like bling and big gold nibs, this isn’t the pen for you. What distinguishes this pen is that it’s a great writing tool.

I bought this pen after my new Waterman, which cost nearly twice as much as this, fell apart after just 3 months of use. Ironically, this pen feels better-mate, writes more smoothly, has a more consistent line and ink flow, holds more ink, doesn’t scratch as easily, and looks cooler. The included case is a soft genuine leather, and is a great add-on.
Keep in mind that the nib has almost no flex. I like this. I push down hard on the paper when I’m writing, and this is the first fountain pen I’ve used which doesn’t feel like it might break with the pressure. However, there is still some expression in the line depending on the angle the pen is held.
My one issue with the pen is that the inside of the cap has brass holders which keep the cap in place. If I rotate the cap on the pen as I often do out of habit, you can feel it scratching against the steel grip part of the pen. This is not a huge deal, just don’t rotate the cap.
After owning a Sailor, Lamy Safari, Pilot, and the aforementioned Waterman, I finally found my end-game for fountain pens. This is it. The expensive, cigar-shaped pens I’ve owned are delicate and feel more like pieces of jewelery. In contrast, this is a writer’s tool. 5 stars.

Pero me alegro de haber comprado esta Lamy 2000 en punto fino, en mi experiencia se parece a una de punto medio-fino (mf) de Pilot (la marca que más uso). Ahora se ha convertido en mi pluma favorita.

If you’re a serious collector, you must have a Lamy 2000 in your collection. Writing with this pen is like living in a Frank Lloyd Wright home. It’s both classic and modern, brilliantly complex and utterly simple, all at the same time. The nib is gloriously smooth with just the right amount of feedback. The feel of the body and the seamlessness of the section and piston filling mechanism are beyond impressive. Posts deep and securely and is well balanced and comfortable. This is Lamy’s flagship pen, and should be a mainstay of any collection.

Je vais revenir sur le stylo après, mais il faut tout d’abord signaler que le stylo m’est arrivé sans emballage, et le porte stylo en cuire indiqué dans la fiche produit n’était pas non plus présent. Le stylo était juste livré dans un ziplock et un sachet en plastique glissé dans le carton, sans plus. Pour un stylo à 200€, ça gâche un peu l’expérience. Bref, la note basse est uniquement dû à cela. Heureusement que le stylo est bien authentique, et qu’il n’est pas arrivé endommagé…
Car sur le stylo je n’ai rien à redire, le Lamy 2000 est un classique indémodable qui n’a pas volé sa réputation. Le stylo est très agréable en main, la finition en Makrolon très douce au toucher, et la plume est fidèle à la qualité Lamy. Attention à bien démonter et nettoyer le plume et le collecteur avant le premier usage, il peut rester un peu d’encre des essais qualité en usine. Le mien avait des ratés au démarrage, il restait un peu d’encre bleue séchée dans le collecteur, après un bon rinçage, plus de problème.

Pros:
Smooth. Especially for a 0.5mm (European Fine), it is incredibly smooth to write with.
Lighter than it looks – I prefer that!
Piston filler holds A TON of ink.
Impeccable build quality.
Cons:
Has a very narrow “sweet spot”, i.e. angle at which you can hold the nib to get it to write. More so than my Safari/Al-Star pens.
The leather sleeve isn’t the greatest quality.
The box is not what I would expect for a $100+ pen. I got the same box for an Al-Star… Which cost me a quarter of the price.
Tiny, basically unusable ink window.

The Lamy 2000 fountain pen is a classic, piston-fill fountain pen with a 14kt gold nib. I own a couple of each nib size: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, medium oblique, and broad oblique. I have written with fountain pens for over 35 years and own over 100 carefully chosen fountain pens including several Pilot Custom 823s, Parker Duofold, Pelikan M805 and M400, Waterman Carene, and other pens from Diplomat, Kaweco, Otto Hutt, Farber Castell, Visconti, Staedtler, and other Lamys. But the Lamy 2000 remains my everyday set of pens. They are durable with the Makrolon fiber glass body, ink flow is flawless, and the shape of the barrel provides ergonomic comfort for long writing sessions. I also own several of the Lamy 2000s in stainless steel; these are also impressive but I find them a bit too heavy for everyday constant use. I doubt you will be disappointed with this pen.

The Lamy 2000 was designed in the 1960s? You wouldn’t know it to see one in person. Its design is timeless; the perfect marriage of form and function. It holds a lot of ink, writes smooth as silk, and never skips or “goes out” on me. I’m using it to draft a novel, and it is very comfortable, even when writing for hours at a time. I like to grip it low on the metal piece near the nib, posted. The balance is adequate as well.
