Bottomline up front: A performance SD card that can handle all but the absolute highest video recordings

I feel like this card is suitable for most non-professional users, like aspiring video creators. I use this SD card in my Sony FX30 and and I typically record at XAVC S 4K @ 60p, 200M 4:2:2 10 bit without any issues. Transferring from the card to my computer is super quick. You also get a reliable name for a reasonable price. Sure there are other V60 cards out there for cheaper, but have you seen some of those brand names??? Definitely recommend, as this card offers a good balance of price, performance, and known reliability, and would be suitable for most if not all casual to enthusiast users.

    Pros:
    – Reliable brand
    – Can handle all but recording at the highest settings (at that point, just get a V90 or CFA Express)
    – Reasonable price for storage amount
    – Durable
    – Seems suitable for most non-professional users, or maybe even as a backup card for professional users

    Cons:
    – Higher storage volumes get pricey quickly

First of all, having a 2-pack of these memory cards is a handy bonus. It gives me peace of mind knowing I have a backup card when I’m out shooting photos or videos. The 256GB storage capacity is ample for my needs, allowing me to capture a large number of high-resolution images and 4K videos without constantly worrying about running out of space.

When it comes to compatibility, these cards have worked flawlessly with both my Sony A7R IV and Panasonic G9 cameras. I haven’t experienced any compatibility issues or error messages, which is a relief. It’s nice to have a memory card that plays well with different camera brands.

In terms of speed, these cards are reasonably fast. While they might not be the absolute fastest on the market, they do the job well for most situations. I’ve been able to shoot bursts of high-resolution photos without any noticeable lag, and recording 4K videos has been smooth as well.

One thing to keep in mind is that these cards are UHS-II, which means they offer faster data transfer speeds compared to UHS-I cards. However, to fully take advantage of their speed, you’ll need a UHS-II compatible card reader. So, if you’re transferring your files to a computer, make sure you have the right equipment to maximize their performance.

Overall, the Lexar Professional 1667x 256GB (2-Pack) Memory SDXC UHS-II Cards have been reliable and convenient for my photography needs. They offer a good balance of storage capacity and speed, and the 2-pack gives me peace of mind when I’m out on a shoot. If you’re a casual photographer or videographer like me, these cards should serve you well without breaking the bank.

Used in an R5 camera these see lots of insertions and removals. The SanDisk’s had a thin piece of plastic that would fail and break off. This happened twice, thus a design flaw and not a one time event. If the piece was retained in the camera’s SD slot, it’s $350 (min cost) to Canon for service/repair. The Lexar’s were more costly, work no better or worse, however I no longer have to worry about them damaging the camera.

I bought a couple of these cards in the 64 GB version in early summer 2019 for use in my (then) new Sony A7III and I have another used in my Sony A7RII. Cumulatively, the cards have around 30,000 snaps with no problems of any kind.

Though (or maybe because) I don’t do the sort of photography that requires me shoots RAW bursts, I’ve never had a problem with the card’s read and write speeds. After reading several reviews here complaining about the card’s read/write speed, I decided to test it myself. I did notice that the data on the card only gives read speed as 250 MB/sec, write isn’t mentioned.

I’m working with a system where all the other components are much faster than the card, making it the limiting factor.

A couple or reviewers here said they think the write speed is around 45MB/sec and that agrees what I found when writing to the card both with the camera and with a data file from my computer. I shot RAW burst in continuous hi mode from my 42 MP A7RII until the buffer filled with 904 MB (22 41.4MB) raw files. The buffer cleared in 22 seconds. I also transferred at 5.7 gig file to the card from a very fast M.1 NVME through a USB 3.2 type C connection to a high speed reader and came up with 45 MB/sec almost on the nose. You can conclude that as far as write is concerned, 45MB/sec is all this card has.

I also tested the read using the same rig as above in reverse and came up with 230 MB/sec. That’s pretty close to advertised.

So, the card is a slow write, so what? I’ve been shooting these cards for years and it hasn’t bothered me a bit. But my type of shooting never needs for me to shoot 22 shots in a couple of seconds followed up with more. But some people do. If you’re a sports shooter, waiting 22 seconds for the buffer to clear so you can shoot more could be catastrophe.

If you shoot portrait, street shooting, landscape, walking around a museum, you won’t give a flip about 45 meg/sec write, won’t ever even notice it. But if you shoot action—-.

As for me, I’m gonna buy another Lexar.

BTW, don’t think I’ve ever bought anything that’s as fast as advertised. Earlier today, I was doing some backup to remote drives and managed to get a SanDisk SSD advertised at 1050 MB/second to write around 700 MB. The files were originating with a M.2 NVME on the PCie bus feeding through a USB C gen 3.2. I didn’t time it but it made short work of a 65 gig file.

Two SD cards for a decent price. These were new cards (as they should be) and arrived well-packaged and fast delivery. EDIT: Unfortunately, when I returned from my vacation with photos/videos on these cards, they were very very very sloooooow and it took hours to download just a few hundred files to my computer. That is totally unacceptable. Now, when I insert these cards in my computer, they won’t even open. I tried them on different computers and they produce the same results. I don’t trust these cards at all and will no longer use them. I’m also very disappointed with my purchase and hope I can work something out with the manufacturer. I’ll post the outcome here as soon as I hear from the company. (I’ve used other Lexar SD cards before and never had any problems.)
