Lucy is reluctantly returning to her hometown to celebrate her grans 80th birthday. Reluctant because she is the only suspect in her best friend, Savvy’s murder. Last time she was there she was found injured, covered in her friends blood and carrying her murder weapon! Lucy suffered a brain injury during the incident and jas no memory of what happened to Savvy, but crime podcasts Ben is there to solve this crime and Lucy agrees ro help him uncover the truth!
Lucy is a brilliant character…flawed, witty with a dark sense of humour and a voice in her head driving her to kill. I loved the podcast aspect of this book and slowly uncovering lots of secrets that led to Savvys murder. Its a compelling read. There were a lot of characters introduced and keeping up with how they all linked was a bit of work at times. The ending was very unexpected…definitely not the way I personally expected or would have liked. Don’t trust anyone!

“And people hate that quality in a young woman, don’t they? They don’t know what to do with a girl who isn’t looking for their approval. They feel like they have to bring her down a peg.”
Five years ago, Lucy was found wandering the streets of her small Texas hometown covered in Savvy’s blood without any recollection of what transpired between the two best friends. Despite all the proof that Lucy murdered Savvy, the police lacked sufficient evidence to make an arrest. Although Lucy was never charged, that didn’t stop her family and friends from coming to a verdict in her close-knit community. Desperate to start over, Lucy left her big house and dreamboat husband in hopes of greater anonymity in Los Angeles.
Everything changes with this cold case thanks to the popular true crime podcast, “Listen for the Lie.” Ben Owens, the podcast’s handsome host, makes Savvy’s murder his crime to solve in the show’s second season and Lucy finds she has no choice but to return to the place she vowed never to come home to.
This is a fun, dark, twisty whodunnit with a strong, sharp-tongued FMC who doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. In fact, Lucy’s as committed to finding Savvy’s killer as Ben is, even if it means it really is her. Besides, she’s become used to the fact everyone thinks she’s a murderer. Lucy knows the truth doesn’t matter. It only matters what people believe.

I’m halfway thru this and considering feigning illness so I can take to my bed and finish it! Will people stop talking to me so I can read more of what’s in Lucy’s brilliant, funny head? Let’s hope another book is coming soon!

Clever and well written. One of my favourite reads of the year.

The book is a good read so far. The story is interesting so far! The writing style isn’t my favorite, but I am enjoying the book overall. However, the paper cover was damaged when I received it. I assume during packaging/shipping, which I was pretty disappointed in..

Listen for the Lie
by Amy Tintera
4/5 ⭐️
Lucy Chase may have forgotten Plumpton but Plumpton has not forgotten her. It is hard to ignore the girl who supposedly murdered her best friend but does not remember anything. Savvy Harper was the town’s sweetheart and a charmer, especially with the men. Lucy and Savvy were inseparable so everyone was shocked when Lucy was found roaming the streets covered in Savvy’s blood. Five years have passed since that horrible night and Lucy has moved on to start fresh in LA.
When a family event brings Lucy home, she is forced to face the past. Not only does she have to answer to the town, but Ben Owens, a famous true-crime podcaster shows up and has questions for Lucy. Lucy has never spoken to anyone or given an interview until now. She decides to help Ben with his podcast “Listen for the Lie” and solve Savvy’s murder once and for all. Even if this means she could be the one who did it.
Listen for the Lie was a fast-paced, twisty mystery that I could not put down. The writing format alternated among real-time, flashbacks and Ben’s podcasts. The best part of this compelling thriller was its dark humor. Also, Lucy is a phenomenal character with her sass and sense of humor. She is a hot mess but her quick wit and sarcasm make her very likable. I have a few complaints about this book. The first one is the amnesia trope is overdone! And the second one is Lucy’s family is appalling; everyone except her grandmother. Lastly, I have so many questions about the ending. Lucy makes a very vague statement that leaves me bewildered. I like mysteries wrapped up neatly with a bow.

I really enjoyed this. At first I was loosing track of the characters but I quickly got them straight as I read on. I liked the podcast storyline. It was a relatively quick read. If you enjoy true crime or mysteries, you enjoy this book.
Kindle Customer –

I had no idea how this book would end…didn’t figure it out. Amy Tintera writes with humor and intrigue. I am now going to see what else I can read of her’s. Thanks, Amy!

This book was the most entertaining and enjoyable book I’ve read in months. I loved the main character Lucy, but my favorite person was her grandmother!
It was a fun murder mystery with a rom-com feel. There are several plot twists and a surprise ending that I didn’t see as quickly as I usually do.

Me entretuvo mucho. Esta muy bien construida la trama y la historia se desarrolla de forma que cada capitulo sorprende.

This is the book I decided to read, or rather listen to, on a 6-hour coach trip to Sydney. And it didn’t disappoint. The discomfort associated with my back issues soon disappeared as I became engrossed in the story. The cast of readers did a brilliant job. I also loved the way the podcasts were realistically portrayed. All in all, a good riveting read.
