Love these cymbals. The crashes and hats are absolutely incredible. The ride cymbal looks absolutely stunning, and it sounds pretty good. However I do wish it had a bit higher end and a more prominent bell. Some people may like this sound though

I have been researching these for a while and listening to every drummer online who plays this series. Very impressed, very musical dark, dry sound that blends well. 20 inch “thunder butter” is epic huge crash but not too loud or brash. 18 inch extra dry is the biscuit, short sharp and usable very happy with this. Ride is articulate, good stick definition and musical bell, awesome crash wash. Hi hats are really good but I’ll look at the 15 duel hats as a replacement.
4 years on and these cymbals have worn in well, ride has sonically balanced out, the crash is very fast and gets out of the way. Dark hats are a favorite of everyone who uses them. The 20 inch hand hammered is the most talked about must get however, sounds best under mics but is a huge musical wash.

After a ton of research I settled on this Byzance set. This is a tremendous value for the quality of cymbals you get. The 20″ crash is amazing, as well as the 18″ crash, nothing bad to say about them at all. In fact the 20″ crash is the best I’ve heard. The ride is great, it sings more than it pings. The hats are the worst part, extremely dry and take a little getting used to, their lack of attack makes anything over an 8th note tough to decipher, and the chick is very quiet, best served as a remote hat imo. The best part about these cymbals is how they sound in a band situation, they snuggle right up to the music quite pleasant.

Very unique sound that I was looking for. Both crash cymbals really don’t have that “crash” sound, but rather a “wash” and decay tone. Exactly what I wanted to add. The ride has a nice heavier tone – good for rock. The hats are solid with more of a nasty tone. The only drawback? The picture shows one hat (the bottom one) with a bright finish. That would add some flexibility if you wanted to put that one to the top for a brighter tone. Unfortunately, both hat cymbals came with the darker sand finish so the tone is what it is.

I would buy these again in a heartbeat. It’s a very well matched pack, even though the ride and 20″ crash are quite different sounding from the hats and 18″ crash. Incredibly expressive whether shouldering or crashing, hitting hard or soft. The ride does have a lot of wash when pinging, but hearing recordings the notes all come through no matter what speed you’re playing at. The 18″ is very, very dry, but has a gorgeous tone when crashing. There is no bell projection, though. The hats are simply incredible. Dark, washy when opened, dark and crisp when closed, fantastic pronunciation.
I should add that I have a reputation for playing hard, and these cymbals are serving me very well. I was concerned about the 20″ extra thin hammered crash, but after reading several other reviews of proper metal-heads playing these cymbals without issue I went ahead and bought these. After playing them now I’m certain it won’t be a problem for me either.
I’ve only had a few occasions to hear these recorded and I couldn’t be more happy. They’re exactly what I wanted in a Rock/Pop outfit, and work great in a separate jam band. I’m struggling to think of an application they wouldn’t work for.
I can’t speak to their sound in a live setting due to COVID-19 as I’ve only had these a couple of months. I do worry about the projection of the 18″, but I think it will actually be a great cymbal set for smaller rooms where you want to hit cymbals/play rock, but need vox to come through the mix. They really let the rest of the kit voices shine.
TL;DR – fantastic, expressive, multi-application set of cymbals. Highly recommend. I’m a Zildjian die-hard and these have me head over heels in love.
