This is an incredible musical instrument. It is very well made. The sound is great. Attached under the batter head is a handle which makes the movement of this drum a breeze. I used a slightly damp terry cloth to clean some of the power from the outside ring of this drum head. Also, I used beeswax on the drum head to make it easier to do thumb and finger rolls. This tambourine responds beautifully at all dynamic levels. From ppp to fff, this tambourine sounds great.

I want to state first how I have never owned a grover or black swamp tambourine, but have gotten to play on one many years past while still in high school.
A great tambourine should have dynamic range, control, and a great sounding and smooth roll. Well I think Meinl has successfully competed with the other two and can stand tall with them.
This review had to be written as there is little out there about these. One video in german and no other reviews; it was as if I was the first person to own one!
I decided to get the bronze jingles as I conceptually like a darker profile. It is really nice and I would compare the overall sound like one of the other two bronze model.
Like grover these meinl have staggered jingles that allow for even rolls like thumb rolls. This one also has different size and design jingles such as some with hammering, others without.
Also on the head there is coating around the edge which was described as resin. It isn’t tacky but allows just enough friction to produce thumb rolls.
Like many pro tambourines this has a natural skin head so could be affected by humidity. Also the head is afixed like a black swamp so no nails/tacks like a Grover. That could theoretically mean eventually whatever is holding it on could fail. Doubtful though possible.
These don’t have a finger hole but instead have an ergo grip that for me is more comfortable than the finger hole style.
Since it is solid wood it is heavier than you may expect if you have never held a pro version but comparable to others.
It is also priced under the others by around 35 dollars, so is the cheapest bronze jingles tambourine out there. I should point out that because of a weird listing error on the part of amazon I got mine direct from amazon at $55 dollars with prime. the normal going rate is $129
I buy a lot of meinl stuff for this reason; a lower price without sacrificing quality.
Overall meinl is on the map with their artisian series tambourines. Strongly recommend considering meinl for your next tambourine.
A bit of an update as of 4/5/17: I had about 2 weeks ago bought a used black swamp TC3 which is the german silver jingle model and I noticed a much lighter body on it compared to this meinl model, enough of a difference that I felt like I wasn’t even holding anything.
Also after playing it a while I felt the hand grip was actually getting in my way and while it was comfortable it made trying to muffle the head difficult as you had to reach extra far to do so, which then defeats the ergo comfort grip.
Sound wise its pretty great still and it was for that reason I gifted it to a local kid as he in concert band and wanted to give him a professional sounding instrument. I know tambourines can cost a lot, and now he has one that is pretty awesome
So I am going to give some sub star ratings

I think overall I am adjusting my rating to a 4 star as its still a great instrument but if you have played a black swamp or a grover recently and you pick this one up, the weight difference will matter a lot.
