I’d seen toe shakers before. But I’m a heal bouncer, not a toe tapper. When I found this, I was very excited. Perfect for adding a little percussion to solo acoustic guitar gigs. Also helps improve rhythm and tempo while playing solo. Good stuff. Always gets a good audience reaction, as well.

Light use, (like two short sessions,) and I’m afraid one of the seams cracked or opened-up, spilling beads all over the place. I re-filled it and wrapped it in tape, still works, but it seemed kinda weak quality. That said, there aren’t a lot of other options out there, and it still functions fine.

Love this shaker – I call it my shoehorn shaker. I just ordered another so I can use on both feet. I play in our Alternative band at church, and this little shaker can be inserted in a shoe and removed pretty easily. I have found that some heal backs of shoes are too short and won’t hold the shaker in place – putting an elastic around my ankle and the shaker keeps it right where it needs to stay. Decent noise level if I stomp my foot – tapping toe still brings sound, but not as heavy. Still love it – way better than trying to get elastic wrapped around the toe of a shoe.

These things have a good solid sound. Be aware that they do move around not staying upright while in your shoe. I have also played these by hand and they work out good that way.

You have to be careful with which shoes you decide to use this product. Some shoes work fine while others do not work hardly at all and it just falls out with excess force. Even with decent shoes this shaker takes some time to get used to how it feels. However, it sounds great and will add a lot to your cajón sound setup. Nonetheless, I remain curious about Meinl’s front-foot shaker design. I purchased the shoe horn design because I usually keep time by tapping my heel instead of my toe. I expect the front-foot design would work with every shoe but I’d be worried about it soaking up moisture on rainy days as the strap is in direct contact with the ground which could lead to mold in my stick bag. Perhaps an ankle shaker would be the perfect compromise as long as you’re okay with a different sound?
