I was intrigued by the fact that these are rawhide maracas. My only previous experience was with cheaper plastic ones, which I always thought sounded too loud and harsh. I decided to try these out and I’m very glad I did. They sound much nicer and more mellow than plastic ones. They can deliver good volume if used vigorously, but their best feature is the rich, complex sound.

There’s nothing like the sound of rawhide maracas , it’s the only way to go !

I had practice myself into a style of dance in which I try to keep flow and motion cyclic in order to keep the momentum feeding back into the system. Not only does that conserve energy, but when you have practiced enough to always be able to swirl and spin the Motion to go along with the music, well, it looks very graceful and clever. And it involves all the motional axis, especially the interaction between legs and arms, that extending the legs will Lift the Hands, and that two hands swinging in sync will go countersync if a knee is cocked, that the body interacts in response to itself. Then I thought what I might be able to do by putting Maracas into the middle of all that, and, yeap! It works great. These are very Expressive! And loud enough to make you go into songs CAREFUL, for the drop of any bead is crystal clear, especially in discord. But once into any real archetypically appealing rhythm, and a bit of practice, these are actually so sensitive they can be subtle, even on the fly, swinging wide loops to project whisper swooshes, or bringing the beads down hard into the narrowing handle for an up tonal shift in the Thud. I ordered the M2’s, the Smaller Ones, because, wow! they might be cool too, especially on the quickest tempo songs, or, paradoxically, the slowest, where the song is defined by the Sub-Beat Structure, where Pretty Songs have a lot going on with the Right Piano Hand, you know, finger Timing, and then the smaller rattles would be able to keep up without the muscle cramping necessary to make the big ones swing that fast.
