not the best, but thats not what this is for. its for fun casual play, or just to learn how to play a new style of instruments, like me I went from woodwinds to Brass with this instrument to play music with my new friends

My husband loves the trombone – he is a trumpet player and says the valves are great. He also loves being able to play the tenor and bass lines of the music! We are both very happy with the instrument.

I didn’t want to write a review immediately after buying this horn because sometimes you need time with a new instrument, to “break it”, as they say. Well, it never happened. I wasn’t expecting a professional level t-bone (I’ve been a professional trumpet player, so I kinda knew what a $500 horn was going to give me) but after several months with this horn there’s no way that I can keep using it. Valves 2 and 3 keep staying down when you press them! Playing a simple tune in E major or F# major is an adventure! This is after cleaning the horn several times, which shouldn’t be necessary with a brand new horn but I kept doing thinking that maybe cleaning the valves would solve the issue. And then there’s the little problem of anything from open to second valve (like playing F and then E, going downwards chromatically, or from Bb to A) sounding way more than half a step!!! So if I play Stella by Starlight, from the get-go, just the first two notes of the melody, I’m already out of tune! I wouldn’t recommend this horn. Not even to beginning students!

I purchased this so I could add trombone to my church orchestra. I previously had a valve trombone that wore out (it was almost 70 years old). I received this trombone and was a little taken back to the purposely bent shape. When I first played it, it had acceptable tone and I was reassured. At my first rehearsal I realized there wasn’t a ferrule on the end (that little knob that lets you set the instrument on the floor). After playing for a while, I went to use the water key. When I went to blow the spit out, I couldn’t reach the water key. Any brass player knows you need to do this. The picture on Amazon does show how extraordinarily long the slide tube is, but I didn’t notice it. I am 5’10”, so I’m not a small person. I figure you would need to be over 6′ tall or a monkey to be able to reach the water key while blowing. I just felt the instrument would be too easy to dent and impractical.

I was a bit frustrated with it at first because I am used to playing the trumpet. After I got the hang of it, it played really well. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to play the trombone (and is lazy to learn the positions).

I have professional horns, Getzen, Back, King and Conn, this horn sounds great and works well, I’m already making money from band to band here in NYC. Love it. ffsalsa.

This valve trombone is a good value for what you get. From an instrumentality perspective, I wish that they had included a larger mouthpiece. I bought a different one and was able to really crank out great sound almost immediately. I wish that the valves were a bit beefier.
