Jimi Hendrix / Morning Symphony Ideas: Here are some interesting private Jams between Jimi, Buddy Miles and Billy Cox. This is not another one of those `look we found a live version of the same old song’ CDs. This is a true collection of Jams, not concerts, which were never intended to be released. This is for the Fan, not the casual listener. As such, this rates four stars.

At this point, if you’re buying a newly released Hendrix CD, you’d expect that the producers are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Not so with this Hendrix CD. It songs very good. Sure, it’s not an album of fully crafted songs, but interesting, nonetheless.

If you find exciting and evocative the instrumental work found on the retired “Nine to the Universe” LP, selections like “Young/Hendrix” from “West Coast Seattle Boy” you’ll want to investigate Morning Symphony Ideas. On this presentation you’ll hear the band finding its way from riff to riff weaving one to another, sometimes roughly and sometimes sweetly; there’s even reprise of Midnight Lightning and new jams; its very exciting and all quite stimulating.
The Room Full of Mirrors “jam” is a special favorite of mine. I prefer this raw unmixed Room Full of Mirror’s jam to all the engineered released versions, such as that on “First Rays of the New Rising Sun” though it certainly has its place in the Hendrix repertoire. If you own the Fehmarn CD you,ll hear its distant echo. Scorpio Woman is an emotional dreamy number that has potential to be a super hit but again the sound is raw not engineered, that’s what I really like and if you do too then don’t miss this one.
If you’re looking for Purple Haze and Foxy Lady then don’t buy this one: this is the Buddy Miles and Billy Cox gang or Hendrix by himself exploring the guitar solo style.

This is not a Hendrix album proper, nor is it exactly “jamming”. Previously only available through the Experience Hendrix website, under the “official bootleg” Dagger label, this is essentially Hendrix jamming with himself, although Buddy Miles and in places Mitch Mitchell are doing a fairly good job trying to keep up. These tracks are what is known to some as “composition tapes”. This is Hendrix playing off the top of his head, stringing together song ideas in long medlies, seemingly inventing new melodies on the spot, while touching on other themes that surfaced in later songs. It is very rough, and will take a little patience at first, but there are 2 very long pieces, “Keep on Groovin'” and “Scorpio Woman” which contain within them several lovely and inventive ideas that makes you just wish he’d lived long enough to see them through to fruition. After a few listens, these sections become more and more interesting, and even moving in places. When you get used to the (very)rough sound, it becomes pretty amazing that each piece could contain so many ideas. If you only like what he released in his lifetime, do not get this. If you like some of the posthumous albums, but not rougher stuff or bootlegs, do not get this. If you’re like me, however, and like most everything he does, then do get this. Be prepared to be patient, for if you are, you’ll grow to love this one.

Very interesting release for those who really likes Jimi and for those who’d like to suppose what Jimi could do in the 70s.
Rough and unpolished (but quite listenable) records of improvisational charater are opening more intimate side of Jimi’s personality and his music for us.
The central piece “Scorpio Woman” (21:41) was improvised by Jimi in Havaii in August of 1970. There were no restrictions of genre, aim of entertaing public, making show, no restrictions of playing fast and loud. Jimi simply enjoys the music he plays and sometimes you’d get feeling that you are siting in the room next to Jimi, there’s a party and Jimi’s playing something for the guests – not very seriously, but giving them a chace to appreciate his music.
It’s obvious that in the possible future “Scorpio Woman” could be transformed in epic prog rock style compostion. It starts as ballad, continues as bluesy meditation and turns into dynamic rock instrumental piece. Structure of improvisation reminds of Dream Theater and neo-prog bands.
I was always very sceptical about about possible collaborations between Jimi and Miles Davis, Jimi and ELP. If you are listening to ELP record and imagining Jimi’s guitar in their songs – it wouldn’t work.
But if you are listening to “Sсorpio Woman” and imagining drums by Carl Palmer, keyboards by Keith Emerson and acoustics by Greg Lake – yeah, it could work!
Jimi was interrupted twice by the telephone calls, and after the second call he started to talk and didn’t finish this piece of music.
So if you really like Jimi Henrix – buy this album. If you want to buy your first album by Hendrix – pick up Ultimate Experience or Electric Ladyland.

Wasn’t what I expected but this album has a very gritty and experimental sound that Jimi is always able to make sound great even when the song is going through it’s elementary stages of development. Highly recommend if your looking for the insight behind Jimi’s creativity.
