I was a bit doubtful before buying this wireless cable modem, but it is a very good product.
I have comcast and this is supported with the service. It comes with a cd, which you dont need anyway. You have connect the cable to the modem and connect your pc to the modem thru ethernet and login to a URL provided. There you can name your wireless network and set a pwd and so on.
Once done it will be a breeze to connect wireless devices and speed is amazing. This saves me money as i dont rent modem from comcast.
The only problem with this is that it has only one ethernet port. If you have more non-wireless devices such as TVs, PCs , VOIP phone..etc you may need to buy ethernet hub to connect to this modem.
I have been using this for neary 7 months now and I dont remember any problem with it. There were some isolated cases where the Internet is slow, i doubt its with the service rather than the cable modem.
If you planning to get cable internet and if this wireless modem is suported by ISP then look no further and just buy this one.
Huh! almost forgot, My connection is 15 mbps download and 5 mbps upload and my tests always showed more than that. But be aware this DOCSIS 2.0 which has a limit of around 25-30 mbps(not sure abt eact values), which means, if you have a very hispeed internet ranging more than 30 mbps go for DOCSIS 3.0.

I think this is a modem that is most up to date to our times. I like the idea of the internal antennae. The interface could have been more updated.It comes pre-configured with a password. Unlike other routers or wireless devices that I have had, Motorola doesn’t try to scam you into buying a wireless adapter. Looks are really awesome. I don’t miss the blinking lights on the Belkin router either. Connectivity is good. I had some connectivity problems in the beginning when I was messing with it but in normal use I haven’t had a single incident in a month. I have it installed upstairs and use my computer downstairs with no loss of speed. It worked the other way round too.
I use charter. After connecting the modem I tried to open a website and charter’s website popped up instead. They asked me a few questions and my modem was set up! No calls nothing!
P.S. I was having connectivity problems with my cable internet. I kept losing connection every few days and I thought it was the modem, which prompted me to buy this modem. Turns out it was the service. Every time I lose connection now I just wait like 10 minutes and it returns back.

I previously owned the SBG901 for the past 3 years (purchased in May of 2010). Up until recently, the wireless aspect of the modem decided to keep dropping the connection. So, I called my local cable company (Comcast) to see if it was a problem on their end. They checked everything out and could not find anything wrong, so they decided to send out a technician.
When the technician arrived, he checked the cable lines and such. After about an hour or so, he could not find a problem on my end as well. Since I do not rent a modem from Comcast, there was nothing else they could do, so I decided to purchase a brand new SBG901. Sure enough, that modem started doing the same thing.
What’s weird is that, for the past 3 years, the wireless light used to just blink in an orange/yellowish state. Then, all of a sudden, it started blinking green! Assuming I don’t unplug the modem, the wireless connection will stay on until Comcast sends the modem a refresh signal.
I can’t tell you whether it’s a problem with the modem or if it has something to do with the cable company, but if you want to avoid the wireless problem, you should probably buy the most recent version (the SBG6580 as I write this review) if you’re looking for a good cable modem/wireless combo (and also for the 802.11n and DOCSIS 3.0).
UPDATE (12/25/2013): Alright, so, ever since Comcast updated the firmware recently on their end, I haven’t had a problem with the wireless signal…yet. But, I also recently discovered a trick if this becomes an issue again. What you will want to do this the following:
-Log into the router (192.168.0.1)
-Enter your username/password (default login is admin/motorola)
-Click on the wireless tab at the top
-Click on the basic tab at the left
-Where it says wireless and enabled, click disabled
-Click apply
-Click on primary network on the left
-Underneath the network name, switch from enabled to disabled for the primary network
-Close out the page and log back in
-Repeat the process, but just select enabled
There you go, now the wireless part works again. I’ve had to do this a few times, but it seems to do the trick. Unfortunately, you must do this on a computer where the Ethernet cord from the modem is plugged into, otherwise you won’t be able to access it.
