Just plugged in this ‘old’ XET1001 today 2/2/24 and it actually does communicate and work with my old eGauge2 energy monitoring device that’s about 12 years old. So it is apparently HomePlug 1.0 compliant (not HomePlug Turbo or AV, which did NOT work with eGauge2). My original HomePlug, also around 12 years old, died suddenly. So finally I found a replacement HomePlug device that works, communicating over our home powerline.

Absolute Junk! If they are not in the same room or on opposite sides of the same wall they are useless. In either case I will simply run some ethernet cable, I promise you it is less effort and has much better connectivity. Don’t waste your money!!

Have a three story house and “smart” devices located all over? This is the fastest and least technical way to get your signal from a Modem/Router located in the basement to the farthest corner of the top floor. Simply plug it into a wall outlet and plug in a network cable from the box to your computer/TV/Roku or what have you. Instantly you have an 85Mbps + signal right there. Plenty fast enough to allow for high speed streaming, internet browsing, etc… you will need anther one of these coming off of the Modem/Router where ever it’s located to complete the connection, see units sold in pairs.

I ordered this to expand to my bedroom because we have the other one hooked up to the Playstation 3 in the living room works perfectly with the WD Media player in the bedroom since everything else is wifi based this is without a doubt so far no problems and i got this for about 20 bucks used and it looks pretty much new when i got it compared to buying a new one for 60 or more dollars it was a good deal.

We have an older model solar panel egauge2, which doesn’t work with new wifi bridges. When we needed a new bridge to read the egauge, this XET1001 worked perfectly. We just plugged the XET1001 into ethernet and electricity, and the egauge URL started working again. No technical knowledge required. Truly plug and play.

I ordered these aware that hey were refubs. They came in a very well packaged box with almost all items included. The only thing that was not included was the installation cd. Not a problem though because I was able to download it from Netgears’ website.

The only other thing I needed to know was the model number of these refurbished units, for these units it is XET1001.

I just plugged one in to the wall near my router and ran an ethernet cable to it from the router. The other was plugged into my bedroom appr. 70feet away. I have a modified xbox there that is used for an NAS. I get appr 1000kbps throughput for network transfers. This is more than enough for file storage/gaming/streaming standard definition videos. However it is not fast enough for HD streaming. Your results may very depending on distance from the 2 adapters.

I plan on ordering a third adapter which will be hooked up to a 4 port switch.

Overall it is a great product for the price.

Very easy to setup, never fails and although I wish it could be faster, it does the job. I stream internet with it for my Roku XDS.

It could be my house’s wiring, but I had talked to someone else that had told me these things are generally binary – either they work well or not at all. In my house it has proved to be something in between. When I connect to speedtest.net over a wireless link to my router connected to a cable modem, I get around 10M download and .7M upload speeds. Using the power line adapters to get to the router instead, I get <1M download speed and about .1M upload speed. I also get occasional "outages" where the browser reports there is no connection and then refresh works.

Anyway, I have reason to suspect that my home wiring could be better; lights affected by something powering on that seems like it should be more isolated, a higher incidence of bulbs burning out in certain places, etc. Some people are really happy with these adapters and I think it is likely that they have them on better wiring. So if your wiring has given you reason to suspect it has some issues, be forewarned.
