    Bad fit but fixable.
Pros—The helmet is very nice, light, very easy, and quick to adjust, quality foam, and comfortable. should get a 5 star but it kind of head shape dependent.

Cons—Out of the box the helmet has a big issue, on my head and my sons head It sets too low on our face. It almost covers my eyes, and i have a long face. Some reviewer say they put a folded bandanna… on top of their head to make it fit , that’s ridiculous. The fact is if i place the helmet on my head to where it should be there is a 1/2″ gap between the top of my head and the foam on the top of the helmet. The helmet will cover your eyes completely if bumped or slightly pushed and that is no good.

The fix– the foam has two sections, top and bottom (or rim section) what you have to do is pull the front part of the top section out from the plastic until it overlaps the bottom section. That’s it! This makes it fit and stay in the right position. the over lap leaves a gap you could fill with silicon calk but not necessary IMO.

Had to retire my trusty rafting helmet of many years. This one was an excellent choice. First day on the river it did its job, beautifully! It is lightweight and fully adjustable. Now has a scratch on it from a hit to Big Rock on the Racecourse (Rio Grande, NM) but I’m cool with that, don’t look like a noob with a shiny new helmet.

This helmet looks good, feels good and is overall just great. The knob in the back that adjusts tightness is so so helpful. I have worn this helmet many times kayaking and it has always kept me feeling safe with maximum comfort. and you really cant beat the price.

I’ve used this helmet a while now in my part time work as a raft guide and really wanted to like it. But have to say I’m just a little disappointed. It does have a few good points however. The shell appears to be pretty tough and rigid and there is a good layer of dense foam on the inside. Plus the adjustment knob at the back is nice and convenient. And, of course,it looks pretty. Who doesn’t like that?

Cons . . . Where do I start? Well firstly; the straps are not terribly well secured to the helmet shell. This is critical, You want the helmet to stay on when things get serious. My helmet lost one strap connection, early on, without a great deal of force being applied to it – the webbing simply slipping off over an inadequate rivet. Less serious, but irritating all the same, is the padding supplied to make comfort or fit adjustments. These don’t seem to match the instructions (velcro? really?) And when fitted (you’ll have to glue it in) it blocks the ventilation holes. Note; if you have a big head, go buy something else. Then there’s the adjustment knob at the back that seems to have been borrowed from a cycle helmet. It’s a nice touch but unfortunately pretty flimsy. I soon learnt to treat the helmet pretty carefully when not wearing it to ensure this didn’t get broken too soon.

NRS – you’ve got to try a little harder. You’re not quite there yet.

The NRS Havoc Livery is a great whitewater helmet for kayaking. The adjustment is spot on, padding is practically sweat free on the hottest of days, and the shell can take a beating. I was pleasantly surprised for the price. Cheers!

I usually wear medium size helmets, this is made to fit well both large size and medium size, it feels a bit bigger to me than what i’m used to but it can be adjusted comfortably to my medium size head.
