I’m not an expert violinist by any means, but as someone who has played classically for 6 years, this instrument has a great clean sound. You can always add distortion and shred to your hearts content, but having a full clean tone is what sets an expensive electric instrument apart from a cheap one.
No electric instrument will ever have the mellow sound of an acoustic instrument. In fact, it’s kind of a different animal altogether.. colder, more metallic are a few words that come to mind. However with the right strings and a good amp, the clean sound from this violin can be very nice and full sounding.
Ned Steinberger hit a home run with this one. The design is more of a reinvention of a violin than anything. Every feature is very well thought out, and there’s no extraneous ornamentation. The shape and contouring of the body is sleek and contemporary, yet still has a certain elegance only a violin can have. The body is solid wood, and you can feel the strings vibrate through the entire instrument. I believe this is one of the reasons this instrument sounds the way it does. It’s slightly heavier than an acoustic, but the center of gravity is also closer to your body.
My only gripe is with the shoulder rest. Although the range of adjustment is fantastic (my KUN was never quite high enough) its design is very weak. If you don’t tighten the screws super tight, it will tend to rotate and slip. If you’re the type of violinist who moves around a lot or keeps the instrument tight under your neck, this can become a nuisance.
The Heliocore strings that come with it are ok. They stay in tune exceptionally well (especially with the NS Design tuning system) and are very responsive, but I found sound from them to be a little on the thin side. I’ve since replaced them with perlon-cores, and the sound is darker and fuller (which I prefer).
The bridge has less curvature than a traditional bridge. This takes a little getting used to, but I rather like it. It’s also tilted further back and looks odd, but this is just its normal position where it has the most contact with the pickup (you’ll see what I’m talking about if you look inside). As far as the settings, I prefer both knobs fully clockwise (volume all the way up and treble-cut all the way down). Also, treble turned down a little on the amp and a little reverb if you have it.
I haven’t compared the WAV to the CR series, and I’m sure the CR is nicer in quality and tonal control. Maybe if I played professionally I would get one, but in the meantime there’s really no better value. The WAV still sounds amazing.

I could not find a review that described how silent the violin was without amplification to something I could relate to. Therefore, I am writing this review. It is just a little quieter than using the practice mute on my regular violin (not much quieter). So, those of you looking for something to practice with that will not disturb others, just buy an eight dollar practice mute from Amazon. Because there is no headphone jack I bought a guitar headphone amplifier to attach to it ($40 from a local guitar store). Also noticed that I can hear my mistakes on the NS WAV very well. After a ten year hiatus from playing the violin, I am thankful that this is the case since I can correct myself. For being as heavy as the NS is, it sits well on my shoulder and I don’t notice it. I have tried other electric violins that were terrible because they were heavy and did not sit well. Also note that the case the NS comes with has only one location for a bow. Overall, I am very pleased with the sound and can’t wait to start recording:-)

I ordered an Amber Burst but received a transparent red instead but that doesn’t really bother me, both colors are good
at the beginning, it takes some times to find the perfect and ergonomic place for your shoulder rest, you probably will need an Allen key for an extra tightening but then it become a lovely violin to hold.

I saw Laurie Anderson in concert 6 months ago, playing this violin. Incredible sound and cool design. I immediately checked the web site and found out the violin had been reduced from $4,500 to $2250, way out of my price range! Then, a month ago NS dropped the price to $599 with this WAV version. With no retail stores in Florida, I decided to get one from Amazon. Overnight shipment had it in my hands the next day, Amazon Prime rocks!
The fiddle sounds great, I had been using an old Yamaha SV 100 and the sound is definitely much cleaner. And right out of the box, the fiddle was in tune; his radical tuning system is rock solid, try shipping a standard tune fiddle across country overnight and see if it stays in tune. I added a Glasser braided carbon bow and D’Addario Helicore violin medium strings and the resulting sound is incredible, I had no idea the sound could be so silky smooth. I have been playing for a while, but I have always felt that to get really good, I would need to love my fiddle. Well, I love this fiddle and bow, so please excuse me so that I can get back to creating some seriously better music.

The NS Design WAV 4 violin has incredible sound and I haven’t been able to keep my hands off it since it arrived in the mail. I have only a few complaints and that is:
1) The violin did not arrive with a bow. I should have read the product description better, I guess. It just seems logical that there would be a bow in the case, even a cheap one, for those who may not have a bow.
2) The shoulder rest, while extremely comfortable and easy to use, wobbles slightly in the bracket and it irritates me somewhat. I hardly notice it when playing, but when I try to move with it I notice it quite a lot.
3) Again, with the shoulder rest, after some time the shoulder rest slides up into the violin. No matter how much I tighten the bracket the shoulder rest continues to slide, and I believe this is due to the wobbling.
4) This isn’t really much to do with the violin, but the case that accompanies the violin is not well made and feels very cheap to me, especially due to the four or five “Made In China” stickers and tags throughout the case. (Also there is another “Made In China” sticker inside the violin underneath some of the wiring, which I was quick to remove)
Other than that this has been my favorite violin by far. The few complaints I have weren’t nearly enough to make me rate this less than 5 stars. It arrived in tune and has stayed in tune since I received it, which is absolutely incredible to me. I love the modernized tuning system and everything about this violin. Definitely worth the low, low price.

A prima vista risulta gradevole nell’aspetto e rifinito bene però è tutto apparenza !
