If you like a sweet romance, this is for you. I loved the main characters. Modern with old fashioned values. Totally relatable. A put others first….sacrifice your happiness thing going on. No matter how painful. I could feel their pain reading it. Very well written.
I know from experience timing can be off in life. Glad it worked out for Jack and Laurie. I loved that it was told from both points of view. If you want reality watch the news. Had a “Love Actually” feel about it. Will be reading more of Josie Silver. This would make a good movie.

This book was so up and down emotionally. A lot of what if’s and bad timing. What would you do? I always read books growing up about love at first sight. Never really believed it but my heart was always full by the HEA’s. I’m 30 years later with my “love at first sight” walking through a parking lot. Highly recommend this book. It will pull at your hearstrings.

Nice story

I picked this book up because in case you havenโt noticed, everybody and their mother read it this month. It was catchy and sweet and surprisingly relatable. I sandwiched it between a couple of heavier books. It was a great lightweight read for winter.
We start with Laurie, who lives with her best friend Sarah in London and is working part time at a hotel while she works toward a career in magazines. Sheโs on the way home, sitting on the upper level of one of Londonโs red busses, when she spots a guy waiting below. They make eye contact and itโs electric, but he canโt get on before it pulls away.
She and Sarah search for him everywhere they go, but to no avail. Then Sarah starts dating a guy, and by the time Laurie finally meets him, Sarah is head over heels and has half-jokingly declared that she fully expects to marry him someday. Yep, itโs the guy from the bus. Jack.
Now Laurie has to try to not be in love with him, because she wants to be a good friend. But she is in love with him. And heโs in love with Sarah, to be sure, but he also kind of loves Laurie without quite knowing it. We get ten years of their story, flipping between Laurie and Jackโs perspectives. During those ten years, all three characters go through major life events, love, loss, the whole nine yards.
Now Jack is a little bit of a jerk, especially in the beginning, and Iโm not sure that Josie Silver goes quite far enough to convince us that heโs not a jerk anymore. But the feeling that heโs heading in the right direction is there, at least. And Iโm not one for love triangles, ever, but she somehow did a great job of getting me to root for all three characters and really feel invested in the outcome. I wasnโt sure how I was going to possibly be satisfied with the ending, but I was. (Well, almost. I could have done with another chapter or two to revel in the happiness.)
This was a fun, light, feel-good read. Perfect if youโre in a reading slump or looking for something that feels watching a rom-com movie: Not the worldโs greatest piece of art, but a fun escape from reality that leaves you feeling good.

A few things to start with. I really enjoyed the authorโs voice. Her humor, characters and overall feel of the novel was right up my alley. I can see the author going far, and will keep my eye out for future novels.
The reason Iโm rating this novel the way Iโm rating it is wholly based on how the plot made me feel. The story is based on the idea of love at first sight between Laurie and Jack. The trouble with that was the timing, it was way off โ ten years off. Thatโs one of the issues I had with this story. Laurieโs pining and her forced proximity to Jack and Sarah was killing me. If I would have been Laurie, I would have packed my bags and moved out/on. It was a cruel and unnecessary punishment that she put herself through, and I would not have stood for it.
Over the course of ten years, Laurie and Jack were being drawn together and ripped apart by life and multiple untimely situations. Missed opportunities and silence when just one word would could have changed everything drove me mad with a broken heart for Laurie and Jack.
Iโm all for second chances if the couple meets each other after 10 years for the first time again. But in One Day in December the couple lived in the same city, spent quality time together, and shared a best friend/girlfriend. Thatโs too much of closeness for my liking and a recipe for disaster or at least a broken heart.
There were many times I wanted to put it down and be done with it.
Knowing that the couple would go through this kind of heart ache until the very end of the book was not something I was looking forward to. But I wanted to see them get their HEA. I NEEDED a HEA!!! And Laurie and Jack needed one too.
Of course the author had me tearing up with an amazing ending. An amazing conclusion that had my heart go all gooey and warm.

great read

I was looking for a new book to expand ny vocabulary and I definitely found it. There are many slang expressions and complex daily vocabulary (aprox C1). Grear story too.

This is a really good book. I loved almost everything about it. The only thing I didnโt like was the sex for the sake of sex. I am not a prude, but not a skank either. I do feel like sex should be reserved for two people who are in love with each other. Beyond that this made me laugh and cry and is well written. Having lived in rural America all my life I found the traveling from country to country in Europe intriguing. Great pre- Holiday read.

This was sneakily the best book I’ve ever read. Adorably perfect and sad and lovely and heartbreaking. Completely and utterly in love with Jack and Laurie’s story.
Jasmom23 –
Oh my gosh, what a rollercoaster. I both loved and didn’t love this story. I could see how someone might get so incredibly frustrated with it but I can also see how someone would completely understand the why behind this love story. I can absolutely bet money that we’ve all had some version of this story in our own life at some point. Love is crazy like that. This was a great read but didn’t give me that 5 star feeling unfortunately. But still, really good. I laughed, I cried. It was gut wrenching at points. But it felt real. If that makes sense.
Chelsea –
It made me cry and smile so much! I could not stop reading it. It may be another book about a love story but I really liked all the characters, the setting (London/Thailand/Edinburgh) and the fact it is over 10 years. Descriptions and conversations are well-written. The story is told from both sides bringing more explanation about misunderstanding and their behaviours/decisions. This book makes me dream and makes me want to tell my loved ones that I stand by them and I am truly deeply in love with them โค๏ธ take care of your people ! Good vibes book. Just read it

Entertaining read. I like how each chapter is narrated by one of the two main characters. Not your typical characters.
