I LOVE this hat! I have bought so many hats over the years, but have never worn any of them because my head is small. This one was perfect for what I needed it for. I went on a backpacking trek with my son and his Scouts BSA Troop. For one of our shakedown hikes, I wore a typical sun/beach hat with a wide brim al the way around, but the back of the hat hit the top of my large backpack, and it made me hold my head in a weird position. So I needed a hat with no brim in the back, but traditional baseball or truckers hats don’t work for me. I picked this hat because I could wad it up and stuff it in my pack or pocket when not in use, it kept the sun out of my eyes, it hid my hair that went unwashed for multiple days!, it kept the mosquitoes and flies off of my head, it kept the rain out of my eyes and off of my glasses, it dried quickly, it provided a structure for the bug net to go over, it is machine washable!, and it is SO CUTE!

I’ve owned three of these now, and they are phenomenal. Lightweight, sheds water well (as much as any DWR treated fabric does), folds up to nothing when you don’t need it, low profile when worn, and I really appreciate the short brim.
Sizing is a personal thing, obviously, but in the last 3yrs these have skewed slightly larger than the older versions (something I actually prefer)

This is the perfect hat for backpacking and other outdoor activities. It’s lightweight, washable, and the brim folds up for easy stowage when not on your head. I bought the XL for a recent backpacking trip in southern Utah and it performed wonderfully. I’m bald, so sun protection is a must, but I’ve also got a giant, hard-to-fit head (24″ circumference, and significantly longer than wide), so hat-shopping is always a bit stressful.
My only criticism of the cap is that I wish it was offered with a stretchy/elastic headband for an easier fit right out of the box. The XL is actually a little bit TOO big (which is something I don’t get to say very often about hats), but the Lg is a little bit too small, so I had to stitch a couple of strips of poly material from an old ripped hiking T-shirt into the inside of the band so that it fit snugly enough not to fall down over my eyes/ears. This actually worked pretty well to soak up sweat as well, so win/win I guess, but a headband with some stretch would have been much easier.
Now that I’ve got it fitting well though, it’s my go-to lid most any time I’m walking out the door, whether it’s for outdoor sports, yardwork, or just errands around town. Good work, OR.

I bought this hat because of its sun protection plus it happens to be the style I wear. It is also lightweight and foldable. When I remove my hat indoors, I don’t go off and leave it somewhere because it’s in my pocket. The size chart is very accurate, so MEASURE your head. They cost a bit but they have a few functions, namely UPF/sunscreen. Also it’s very comfortable.

First off, I was very impressed with the packaging and how the hat came in a nice box. It actually makes for a far nicer presentation than I expected (which was just to have a crumpled hat in an envelope). The hat, itself is extremely lightweight, cool and comfortable. The large size happened to fit my head almost perfectly, just slightly loose, which was unexpected since I have a fairly large melon. I like the unstructured, foldable design which allows you to carry it in a day pack or pocket so you can always have head protection on you when you need it. That’s why I consider it an EDC hat because it’s the only one I have that I can keep on me without having to wear it all day. Seems well constructed and I like the cool feel of the Supplex nylon. Finally, I like the fact that there aren’t any strange adjustment straps to fool with, just a simple, fitted design. I realize this may turn off some people, especially those with long hair who want to wear it in a ponytail but if you’ve got short hair or are bald, this is the one!

Hinged bill, so a hat you can actually fold & put in your pocket! Very lightweight & comfortable. No more baseball caps for me. Be careful about sizing–I wear size M hats and motorcycle helmets, but the Outdoor Research size M was very tight. I gave it to a friend, and ordered a size L. It fits, but I wouldn’t want to wear it in the wind.

This is my fourth O.R. cap in this style and I love the product but all 4 size mediums fit a little bit differently. Two had a little stretch to them but one of the two was definitely a little more snug than the other. This latest hat does not seem to have the stretchy material and it is actually very loose whereas my very first hat also lacked the stretch and was very snug fitting. Packability is great and I will probably buy at least one more color but I really wish Outdoor Research would dial in the sizing to be more consistent.

A superb, comfortable hat. Fits like a glove and packs small… brim perhaps a little small, but all round ideal! I have purchased a spare just in case!
Ideal!

Great fit. You can fold it and carry it in a small pocket. Very durable. Lasts forever. Can be washed again and again.
I just love this and carry one at all times in a pocket in my bag. I purchased a few extra as well. Great protection against sunlight, rain and cold wind. Looks great as well.
