I bought these to ‘convert’ old binders into a size that can be put into standard filing boxes. For sure this product works, 100%. However, the fiberboard isn’t coated, and it doesn’t come prefolded. Which means that when you do fold it, it will be somewhat bulky and not retain that new shape naturally, at first. That being said, this gets the job done. In particular, the little metal clasps move well, unlike other products where you have to really fight hard to move the clasps into position. I wish I could the original ACCO binders though, because they had good clasps and high-quality fiberboard. But this is a pretty good alternative, just not perfect.

As described nothing more to add
Sandra Morman –
Pressboard is not durable. Holes tore easily when brackets were installed in them.

On the left: my previous dark blue report covers (product code 99402) I was hoping to get.
In the middle: what I received and I don’t consider this “dark blue” (also with the product code 99402)
On the right: the cover page for what I received with a picture of a real dark blue report cover (also among the product pictures).

They aren’t as sturdy as they were before. They must be using a cheaper stock paper to make them now. I got these a few years back and they were much stronger. For what they are charging they should at least be steardier. They were alright, served the purpose intended.
Quo Primum –
These binders are essential for writers who want them for manuscripts for novels and the like. They are easy to use. Pages can easily be taken in and out if revised.

was hard to find anywhere else… good price… arrived ahead of time…
muneca16 –
These are difficult to find. Even though they are not as thick as the original units bought more than 10 years ago, they still work fine for reports that will be archived.
Denelle Sprigler –
Love using these types of covers. These are some of the best. Cover material is very sturdy and the metal clasp is solid. Will buy again.

I took an old report cover from 15 years ago off a document I’d stored and used it for a week before deciding it was a little worn. So I bought these. Better right?
No. It’s simple, really. A report cover has one job: effectively hold a report up to the capacity advertised. That’s it. For something so basic with only two components, how could they have gotten it so wrong?
First of all, the cover… it’s sturdy enough, though not reinforced like some other ones. (For instance, my 15-year-old one, which is still in great shape.) Then again, it didn’t say it was, so no ding there. However, what I WILL ding it for is that, as others have said, the scored covers are impossible to bend so that the report lays flat. It’s not just a matter of aesthetics. The report is harder to handle, and a couple of my pages have already torn at the holes because of the wiggle room.
Secondly, there’s the hinge. One of the sliders on the clasp stays in place, mostly. The other slides freely. The only way it will stay secure is if I tape it. In contrast, the one I have from 15 years ago still holds securely.
For now, I’m moving my document back into the old report cover until I can find some better ones. These are going in the trash. What a waste of money.

I write for a hobby, and use these binders as covers for the stories. They accommodate various numbers of pages and provide good protection. However, I feel they are a little overpriced. Nonetheless, I would recommend them.
