I bought this DVD player to replace an old Philips model that I bought probably 15 years ago or more, when I needed to be able to watch DVDs from the UK/Region 2 that were in PAL format. That DVD player’s disc tray will no longer open, so I needed a new one.
This model from Panasonic was EXACTLY what was needed! Please note that the pre-printed info on the back of the device is marked Region 2, BUT there is a label on the outside of the box that states Region-Free, AND IT IS! It was region unlocked right out of the box! On my old Philips model, I had to find the Region Unlock Code and input it myself, but that was unnecessary here. I put in a Region 1 DVD and it played flawlessly! I also tested with a Region 2 DVD in PAL format to make sure the PAL to NTSC conversion works, and it again played flawlessly! For $60, I’m very satisfied. I believe I paid more like $80-100 for the one it’s replaced.
One final note is about the included power cord: It is a UK model with an included US/North America adapter. So this is a model that can be used on EITHER side of the Atlantic!
In closing, pay attention to who is selling and fulfilling your order. Make sure it’s fulfilled by Amazon in case what you receive is not as described, that way you can return and/or exchange it. But if Sold By Erskine Elec and Fulfilled By Amazon, you should receive a brand-new unit that’s exactly as described!

I had tried two other all region players and sent them back . This was so far worth what I paid. Works very smoothly with quiet operation and great picture reproduction. I tried every feature as soon as it arrived to make sure it was okay and it was. Do not know if it will last , only time and use can prove that out. I did put in my German movies first and they were great . Then of course USA DVDs and no problems , I ran a USB drive with pictures and it also worked as expected. I am glad I went a bit further in price , the player itself is not tiny like the others , not that it makes a real difference , you may actually want a mini sized player , good sized remote with all features . Panasonic is an age old company and that makes a difference to me. Having been over two years now , no problems . Still looks and functions like new.

Bought this because we still get a few Netflix DVDs to cover content not yet available streaming. It’s a reasonably workable unit although with a few quirks. The remote covers all the functions, and we sometimes resort to it instead of our universal remote which doesn’t have buttons for everything a DVD player can do.
Quirk 1: When you pause a movie, the onscreen display does not show how far into the movie you are. This was present on other players we’ve used and is handy. There may be some obscure setting somewhere for this but haven’t found it yet.
Quirk 2: The player is very unpredictable as to whether it defaults to subtitles on or off for any given DVD. At least half the time I have to reach for the remote to kill the subtitles when a movie or series episode begins and starts to have dialog or other sounds.
Overall, this unit is satisfactory for the current era when not all content can be streamed with the services we subscribe to. Some titles, such as recent theatrical releases and some classics, can be delayed as much as years or may never show up except as premium purchases, so having a DVD player seems a good and relatively inexpensive investment. This unit is not Blu-Ray, so people with larger TVs and who really want that level of quality will look elsewhere for the disc player component of their systems.

My high quality 15 year old Oppo DVD player finally died after 15+ years. I have a pretty sizeable DVD collection I still want to watch occasionally and was looking for a region free player like my Oppo. This Panasonic fits the bill just fine. It’s compact, quick to load and easy to use. I can’t judge the upscaling ability since the 4K TV I have it hooked up to does that job from 1080p to 4K anyway. That said, at a distance of 10 feet the picture is acceptable on a 55″ TV. Not great, but OK. Until last year I had a 37″ 1080p TV and it had a better picture – no continued upscaling to 4K like this current TV. Again though, I don’t want to get rid of that DVD collection so this is fine. I did hook it up to my main 75″ TV and it looks awful, so I wouldn’t really recommend anything larger than 50″ really. The smaller the screen the better quality the upscaled picture is going to be.

I have been using for a few weeks now and I find it ti be operating well. It was packaged nicely. It was easy for me a 75 year old to hook up and it operates as described. I am happy with purchase. But one con is that the remote is difficult to maneuver it must be an order version. No way of feeling for buttons you need to put light on if dark to operate it. My son tells me that thew newer ones have different sizes and shapes and position them for easy touch. He also said that since it is not even blue ray it was too expensive. But since it works without incident I shall keep it
