I’m extremely picky about movies. I often troll through hundreds of movies until a unique title or cover jumps out. Yes I do judge books by their cover because if the cover sucks so does everything else. This plot in this movie is extremely enigmatic and amazing. I’m not easily entertained as I am in fact a writer myself but I was very impressed with this storyline and this movie needs to land in a theatre. It’s rare that I find a movie this entertaining that doesn’t contain nudity or too much profanity because usually I don’t waste my time with anything rated less than R but I highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes a good story line.

The film itself is alright, well put together and perfectly watchable. A simple tale of a young man who works at a bank, and when a train crashes in his garden suddenly he’s at the centre of the town’s talk due to a strange woman that appears in his house.
Ellen Page is OK in it. The supporting cast, including Susan Sarandon are all pretty great. But Cillian Murphy is astounding. It’s probably my favourite role/s of all time for him so far. He is utterly captivating as this ‘married’ couple, and I’ve watched the film time and time again because of his performance/s. Basically, if he wasn’t in it I would never have watched this film. He never fails to astonish me, and not long following this film I saw him play entire village of people on stage. And then a Brummie. Hard. Core.

An enjoyable psychological thriller
For me, the main problem with the film is the fact that the reveal that John and Emma are the same person is given much too soon. It happens within the first five minutes of the movie, even before the opening credits have rolled. I think it would have worked better if this was kept until much later in the filmt. That way, the viewing audience would have been in the same position as the townspeople, trying to unravel the mystery between John and Emma

Since this film pretty much starts with what other films would save as ‘the big twist ending’, the really riveting thing to watch is how peices come together – and fracture apart – in this very quirky thriller.
Cillian Murphy has a role that many actors probably dream of, but few could probably pull off. It’s a brilliant performance, bouyed by a staggeringly talented supporting cast.
This film is as bleakly quirky, darkly humorous – AND tense – as the Coen Brothers at their best. VERY low-key, but squirm-inducing humor in parts.
It is certainly NOT for everyone, and surely at the bottom of anyone’s list of ‘first date movies’ ! 😉
Still, it’s a moody, haunting little film with some unforgettable characters and performances.
I’d give it a ‘Must See’ to anyone who is fond of Coen Bros films and other slightly ‘off’ indie films.

That is a shame about it going straight to DVD. Besides the great story with a really good cast with a particularly excellent performance by Cillian Murphy, was the blow-you-away soundtrack by Brian Reitzell!!!
I suppose it is too much to expect a soundtrack CD from a straight-to-DVD movie?

Films like this don’t come along too often and deserves to be seen by a wider audience. I stumbled across it quite by accident and I’m glad I did.
In an era where Hollywood seems to churn out obscene slash and splatter films almost on a weekly basis it is refreshing to see an Independent Film Company create a film that is both thought provoking and sensitive, given the subject matter. The obvious temptation is to compare it to Hitchcock’s Psycho, but this film is not a remake or copy. There is no point in covering the same ground of the other reviewers, for me this film deserves 5 stars. It is well crafted and has a timeless feel about it. Cillian Murphy’s performance is brilliant. I will definitely come back to this film a number of times.

The plot of the movie is a dark pscychological thriller without your usual graphic gore and expected hollywood shocker ending. The story deals with an alter ego or split personality in a man that was abused as a child by his mother. Murphy’s performance as Emma is superb. He makes you believe you are watching the transformation of a beautiful, shy and soft spoken woman into a secure, assertive one. I cannot think of any other actor who could have pulled this off as beautifully as he did, since he does have an incredible talent and androgynous features with wig and drag. If you want to watch a great and unique performance, you wont be disappointed.
